Lowering K5 4WD front leaf springs
After swapping out the 33/12.5 BF Goodrich ATs for 275/60 street radials, the mechanic and I are getting ready to lower the '72 K5 4WD down to roughly stock level (maybe an inch or two lower). Assuming novices at work, we can use some help.
Here's a look at the undercarriage before the tire swap I checked the FAQ index and there is plenty of advice about dealing with rear leaf springs and front coils. What about the front leaf springs? Do you toss 'em and fabricate a coil setup? Or is there a simpler way of going about this? Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Lowering K5 4WD front leaf springs
You could simply remove some leafs from the pack... Or have yours flattened out more since only having one leaf might be fragile....
Not mush of a way to go lower than stock unless you want to move the axle over the springs... then you might open up a whole new can of worms...

Re: Lowering K5 4WD front leaf springs
is that the spring perches right under the springs? or is it a small lift block.
if perches i would buy a set of stock springs, you really need to swap out or at least cut off the excess threds on the ubolts, give you better under axle clearance. good luck..

Most vendors carry or can order some stock leaf springs and u-bolts. I'm sure you can find someone to buy the current lift. You may even see if a local 4wd shop will make you a trade or give you a discount on some stock leafs.

Re: Lowering K5 4WD front leaf springs
Sounds like if you were running 33's, you had a 4" lift.
If so, Simply replace the lift spring's and any lift blocks with a set of stock spring packs and your done. Change the shocks out as well. Drive lines woudn't have been lengthened with only a 4" lift, you should be good to go there. |

Well if you had a 2 - 4" lift and are removing it, I might be interested in helping you "discard" the lift parts...
