Question Chrome Paint

I have tried to repaint the chrome on the dash bezels and heat vents. The still look horrible. Instead of bright chrome like the can lid they can out dull silver like all the other chrome paints I've tried. The surface was clean and very smooth. I used Micromesh 4000 on it. Do I need to use a clear lacquer top coat or a better paint or what.

silver paint

All the people I know that rstore cars use those paint pens (silver...the ones you push to get the color down to the tip) to emulate the dash "chrome" accents. You can get 'em at the hobby store.

Thanks for that advise. I am not exactly sure what they are but at least I know what to look for and where to look.
