1972 Highlander interior colors (dash/carpet)

Hi all -
I have a '72 LWB with the Highlander packlage. It's Dark Olive inside and out. The plaid seat cover inserts were replaced with a solid color by a prior owner, so I've been on the hunt for NOS plaid material. The parchment door panels are still intact.

My main question is around the carpet and dash pad. The carpet should be black, correct? Same for the dash pad - should that be black in all cases as well? My current pad is green (also replaced by a prior owner). Finally, should the headlight switch knob be black with a woodgrain center? I can't tell if that's factory or not.
Thanks -
Terry

Re: 1972 Highlander interior colors (dash/carpet)

someone here has a link to the pliad stuff, I can't remember who, but hopefully he will chime in.
You are right on the carpet and dash pad... black. At least, acording to the photos I have in an advertisement here from GM showing a 72.
The center of the knobs should be stainless, not wood grain.

Re: 1972 Highlander interior colors (dash/carpet)

My 72 has black dash and carpet. I believe woodgrain is only super cheyenne.
There is a guy from Texas on here with a orange/white clean longbed who will prob chime in later.

Here is a few pics of highlanders that I have sold recently. Both have had black dash pads and carpet and stainless knobs.

Re: 1972 Highlander interior colors (dash/carpet)

highlanders had black dash pad, black carpet, parchment door panels, sunvisors, seat vinyl, and seatbelts. the dash bezel is supposed to be chrome with black insert. the plaid can be had at sms auto fabrics, someone provided the link above. i bought orange and it was $85 a yard, it takes 1 1/4 yards. if you call them they can send you a sample for free. their phone number is 503-263-3535. they also built me a scroll insert, but the grain is a little off and the tooling isn't as deep. i am going to send it back with an original i got from teeitup and see if they can exact it. hope this helps, i love the highlanders.

Re: 1972 Highlander interior colors (dash/carpet)

Thanks for the info guys! More work to do! I got my request in for an olive plaid fabric sample.

Parchment seat belts too? Those oughta be fun to find in good shape. I have black ones for now.

Since I'm asking, does anyone have experience restoring the parchment door panels? Mine are in good shape overall but at some point my anal retentiveness will require that I get them closer to perfect.

Thanks again!

Re: 1972 Highlander interior colors (dash/carpet)

my 72 cheyenne super has/had white seat, door panels, sunvisors and headliner. the carpet, dash pad, seatbelts are black. my glovebox door is black also--the truck is dark olive/white-- and still has the option list on it with the VIN that matches the truck VIN.

Who cleaned those? Mine did not come out near that nice and it was a clean truck.

Re: 1972 Highlander interior colors (dash/carpet)

There is some great info in this thread. I plan on doing the interior of my frame off project as a highlander re-creation. I would like to know how sameyrasmea72 got those panels and seat belts to look so good....

Scroll down to post #1380 and #1382. RenoKeene cleaned his parchment door panels up real nice.

Re: 1972 Highlander interior colors (dash/carpet)

I have a 72 Highlander with the Olive/white combination

Here's a pic of the interior..
Pay no attention to the gold seat..it replaced the original seat at least two owners ago..

Black dash pad, black steering wheel, steering column, carpet and AC vent surrounds.
White door panels (With the stainless strip and NO woodgrain), white seat belts and sun visors.
Olive painted dash, glove box and doors.
The original seats were white, with the green plaid insets.

Re: 1972 Highlander interior colors (dash/carpet)

hey sameyrasmea72, what brand of dye did you use? They look like a brighter shade than the SEM one from the other thread that kcsa75 posted...
