Converting '68 GMC to '67-'68 Chevy grill
I just purchased a '67-'68 Chevy grill for my '68 GMC. It comes with the front parking/turn signals and the trim. I am guessing all I will need is the headlight trim bezels to finish the appearance side but am wondering about the "behind the scenes" work in this conversion process. What will I need to do, to adapt this grill and 2 headlight system... to my 4 headlight system GMC?
I have a '72 C10 to scavenge the lighting harness off of if needed and noticed my GMC's wiring includes a relay or something on the radiator support. Can I use my '68 GMC radiator support? I am guessing I just remove the high beams and leave those mounting buckets hidden behind the grill, and then change the wiring? How about the center support brace that the hood latch and everything mounts to? And since its still a GMC (just with a Chevy grill) what year GMC emblem might work good in the two holes left in the grill from the bowtie emblem? One off a '99-'06 GMC? my new grill (its just the wrong color): Thanks for any and all assistance!

nobody? I mean I know I guess I'm in the gray area between Chevy and GMC.... where the GMC guys won't help because they feel I'm abandoning them.... and the Chevy guys think I'm a poser......

Radiator support, headlight buckets, and bumper? 'Bout all I can think of.

The reason you're not getting much response is that you're in the wrong forum.
You will need to remove the headlight buckets from your core support and drill for the adjusters or use a 67-68 Chevy support. Wiring you should be able to integrate and use a 3-prong style plug to the single headlights. Emblem I don't know...

Re: Converting '68 GMC to '67-'68 Chevy grill
Wrong forum? Its a project...thats part of a build?
Or do I need to start a "build" thread only in this forum? I guess maybe it looks like a grill swap only on the surface but I am in the middle of placing my '68 GMC's body on my '72 C10's chassis, for the benefits of a V8, turbo350, front discs, bigger rear drum brakes, and rear coil suspension. Then I'll start the tear down of the '68 frame, get it blasted and powdercoated, and build it up with mostly new parts...while I'm still able to use the truck (the '68 body on the '72 chassis). Someday when the chassis is ready, '68 body and '68 frame will reunite.

Re: Converting '68 GMC to '67-'68 Chevy grill
68 GMC I performed this swap and changed everything from the firewall forward and it worked great. The core support and hood are different I believe.

Re: Converting '68 GMC to '67-'68 Chevy grill
I think this forum is intended for build threads only. If this is your build thread, great, but if the only reason for creating it is to ask questions about how to do something in your truck, my personal belief is that it belongs in the main forum. This cuts down on the clutter and keeps project-only threads in here for archive/reference by others.
This is just my 2¢. I wish you luck on the buildup, but I'll add some more opinion: I think it's blasphemous to convert a GMC into a Chevy.

Re: Converting '68 GMC to '67-'68 Chevy grill
I would agree if I was "converting" a GMC to a Chevy. I just happen to like the painted Chevy grill better then the '67-'72 GMC options, so I'm swapping out the "grill". The tailgate will still say GMC, and most likely there will be a front GMC emblem of some sort applied eventually to the nose. For many people that do not know the '67-'72 trucks as well as folks here do...when they look at the truck (and the emblems).....it'll just look like another old "GMC" to them.
And a grill... hardly a truck makes.... I mean, I guess I could swap the title info from my '72 C10 to my '68 GMC... and then call the '68 GMC a '72 C10 with a '67-'68 front clip (and swap the tailgate for my bowtie one). It would still be the same truck, but then the '67-'68 grill would be kosher.
