bear claw latch install
i have a 52 3/4 ton 5 window that im working on doing some minor/slightly major modifications like adding power windows and door poppers. i just recently purchased a bear claw latch kit and door popper kit off ebay and i was wondering if someone could either guide me through the process or post an article of installing bear claw latches. if someone has done the modification of putting the latch in the door jamb and the striker bolt in the door i would much appreciate some shared knowledge as that is what im looking at doing.
this is what i bought http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting also looking at buying this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB..._promot_widget thanks

Re: bear claw latch install
installing the bear claw latches are a very easy process, you do need some welding skills, the latch in the door jamb is a good choice as the pillar is the perfect dimension ,your kit should have come with a plate to weld in,so you should be able to use this as a template to cut the pillar and then weld the piece in,if you look on this page under looking for comments, ther is 1 pic of mine done, and if you like i can post some of the process of putting in.good luck.

Re: bear claw latch install
I installed bear claws on the doors of my 54 last year. Here is how I did it but I kept the original handles. This process would probably adapt to your poppers also.

Re: bear claw latch install
Wow, that's a very nice "step-by-step" instructional. Thanks

Re: bear claw latch install
I have that same E/window kit and it is OK, but I am going to use a different one on my 53 project.
I like the ones that have the motor seperate from the trac as the bottom of the door gets VERY narrow and it is hard to aline the track with the glass as there can be NO binding as the electric motors on this kit is a bit weak especially in the winter! I am going to opt for a better kit with the motor seperate from the track attached by the drive cable. The kits are straight forward as they are anchored to the door and go up and down, but they must be straight!! I did see some interesting conduit on here by using a bit of brake line attached to the bottom hinge, I don't remember whose idea that was but it will work great.
