They are a waste of money. It just make a lot of noise and put out a sputtery spray pattern.

Re: ha sanyone tried painting with one of these?
ok thanks, Ive never done any painting besides a spray can. I think Im gonna pick up an HVLP gun from harbor freight and a small compressor to use to paint smaller parts, like fenders and my grill and a bunch of smaller stuff.

Hopefully you're not referring to painting a truck?
People might knock a cheap gun but I have used them. The quality is not always good but every now and then one of them works pretty good. I have alot of guns for different uses and I admit some of them are really inexpensive, some of them are high dollar. |

Re: ha sanyone tried painting with one of these?
I used one of those *&^% guns to paint the eaves of my house. It leaked paint into the trigger assembly and shocked the snot out of me. Being that i was exepriencing a low-level electrocution, I pitched the thing off the scaffolding I was painting on- about 20 feet. The gun landed in the middle of my patio and paint went everywhere.
Got to love those labor-saving devices... Of course, the one I was using was a "brand-name' Craftsman. I have a Home Depot compressor and a Harbor Freight gun. I do okay with it. I've painted 3 vehicles with it. The compressor is a little slow- I have to wait for it to catch-up. The gun shows a little orange-peel, but that could be because i have a tendency to spray too thick. Yes- I spend alot of time wet-sanding. Being a hobbyist, the tool matchs the craftsman. The capabilities/quality of a $700 production gun would be wasted on me. |

I actually painted 2 trucks with a $40 siphon gun from wal-mart. I looked at them again recently and I think they're $60 now? I bought mine a few years ago. Both trucks came out nice enough...

You can get the real thing for $20 or $30 more, or if you shop around you can get a nice gravity gun for about $100. With as much as paint costs and how intensive body work is, it's not worth cheaping out on the spray gun. A crappy gun will result in a crappy paint job.

Make sure the compressor can keep up to requirements of the gun.
