upper concole project.
I started on an upper console for my 66 today. Tomorrow I'm going to go to the salvage yard to pull one out a newer car that has the time, compass and temp.
Plans are to house the time, compass and temp, along with reading lights. Then I want to add a two switches for my windows, and maybe one to turn off my subs. Did get much done today but get the pattern of the front part of the inside of the roof. Hopefully tomorrow I can get everything figured out and make the skeleton to get ready to fiberglass it. Only thing I wasn't sure of is how I am going to mount it to the headliner. I was thinking of maybe welding a few nuts to the headliner where I can bolt it up. Any ideas? Oh, and don't worry, I'll be posting pictures throughout the build. |

Have you thought of fiber grafting it? Dunno if it would be able to hold or not. I have a coworker that talks about it every now and again.

I put this one in my truck about 8 years ago. It is out of a Dodge Caravan, don't remember the year. I used nutserts to mount it.

That overhead looks great. I like the Oh Sh!t handle as well. I am not sure how I want to do mine yet. I am thinking a custome 3D graphic headliner which is incorporated with a console. I keep looking for examples on the net. Yours is really clean and I like that a lot!

Thanks Dan! I put that chicken strap in for my lady so she could get in and out without kicking the door panels and threshold. She's short. I know Tea's does custom interiors so you might contact them and see if they have any ideas for you or pics of overhead consoles that they have done. http://www.teasdesign.com/product/ John |
