a couple of disc brake questions
I made a trip to the salvage yard today and saw some parts that looked interesting. But first, I found a set of camaro calipers to use.
I was thinking about what master cylinder to use. They have an '04 chevy truck there that has front and rear disc. I was thinking this MC would be a good choice. Anyone every try using this one? (This just dawned on me....what about the camaro MC that I got the calipers off of????) Then, as I continued to walk around, I saw some massive 2 piston calipers on the front of an F250. I'm looking for a better braking setup than the stock front discs and was thinking these might be an option. Some problems that I see, first mounting them, but I figure I could make some type of bracket to mount them too. Next is the rotor. I'd really like a bigger rotor too. The f250 had a fairly small rotor, so it may work with our stock rotors, but bigger would be better, not to mention fill up a 18 or 20 wheel. Finally, I didn't look to see if these were made out of steel or aluminum....if they're steel I'm sure they'd be heavy. |

Re: a couple of disc brake questions
Use the chevy truck rotors if there out there the brakes on those are pretty good size, and the mc is perfectly sized those trucks have a hub a rotor seperate but a company called kore3 will mill you a hub you just have to give them your whell bearing sizes and a couple other measurements, I like the camaro Idea the fact that always runs through my mind is they were only designed to stop a vehicle half the size and weight, I know people have ran them and been happy though

Re: a couple of disc brake questions
Camaros are pigs dude -- i had a '92 that weighed close to 4k --- the weight difference is not that huge if you compare it to a short wheelbase truck from this era with few options.

Re: a couple of disc brake questions
I know that empty, my 71 weighs 4400. So thats not that far off the Camaro. Seems like a lot of folks have used the Camaro calipers too. I would think that if the MC would mount up(bolt holes), it should work fine. Haven't ever looked to see what the brake pedal rod looks like though on a newer one. Let us know how it works out! Jeff.

Re: a couple of disc brake questions
93-02s stock weigh around 3600+. I've had 3 of these pigs. When I raced my 01 Formula, I removed the seats, spare, jack, muffler, swaybar, and some other stuff to try to get it lighter.

Re: a couple of disc brake questions
so I guess they should work just fine, I always wonder where all the weight comes from on these cars if you think about, it front subframe car lightweight panels vs. full frame and heavy gauge metal panels, you'd think there'd be a greater difference

Re: a couple of disc brake questions
I weighed my 67 a few weeks ago with the 283/th350 and it was full of gas and it weighed 3900lbs without me in it. I will have to reweigh with the ls and 4l60e.
