well i,ve been polishing, smoothing and port matching the exhaust ports to my copper gaskets. plugging the heat riser holes with 1\8" pipe plugs, i cut off the generator mounts. i hate grinders dust. it was so hot here this summer when the dust got on me it rusted . dont you think i looked nice and the shower, i wont go there it was that bad.....

Are those new manifolds, or did you blast them before you polished them?

Did you grind away the generator mount or cut it with a band saw or something else? Your manifolds are really smooth and will look great coated. Mine have plugs installed on each one where I guess emissions tubes were hooked up. I don't think trying to weld the holes up is an option considering how old these are. They won't be pretty.

Hey, BCOWAN did your gasket set come with 3 little rivets? The only place I can think that they may go is on the heat shields.

Nice work on the manifolds, I don't plan on going that far, but yours will look really nice coated up. My gaskets match really close, did you have to take alot of matrl. out?

Mienke bent up my 2 1/2" yesterday, so I get to play with it today, 200.00 bucks for 4 pcs. J.

You can braze them. I had this done once to eliminate the heat tube (I think that is what you call it) to turn a carb manifold into a fulie manifold. Turned out great.

WOW!!! Do there ram horns look great! Nice job I can see these on an old rod or one of our trucks. Job done well.

Would like to hear more about thermal coating. How does it stand up with the heat?

I DONT LIKE TO WELD ON CAST IRON. to do it properly you have to heat the part to be welded to 400 deg. then weld it quickly, return it to oven and normalize heat then cool it slowly or it will crack next to weld. i just used 1/8 pipe plugs ( flush ) to seal heat tube holes. i got these from frank ( pickmup ) there real nice manifolds i think. i had to take a portaband saw and cut off the gen. mounts on both of them. i cut it as close as possible then used my die grinders to finish off the removal of casting then moved on to finer and finer grit buffs for smoothing and polishing. for the exhaust ports i used my intended exhaust gasket for a template and used the mounting bolts through it to hold it in place. ( put bolts in backwards ) then i held all in place exactly where i wanted it and used a scribe to make a cut line on manifolds so i could see where material needed to be removed. , in some places it was little and some places it was alot. ideally you want manifold openning about 1/32nd bigger than head port so exhaust flows with no restriction outward. i,ve been doing head and manifold port work for 25 yrs so this just all comes natural. if anyone needs a set done cost is 200.00 and up for labor.
after alls said and done you glass bead them so coating sticks good. cant make up my mind if i want them black, semi chrome or iron gray coated. what do you guys think ?

NO RIVETS IN MY GASKETS i prefer copper competition gaskets they last alot longer imo.

Thanks for all the info, maybe after I get this on the road I'll come back and clean up the xhaust flow. I'm just happy with the pipes the way they are. Can't believe a 1/2" on the radius makes such a differance....

I did some head work in high school. Worked at K&G speed shop. Guy named Radar took his time with me, and taught me alot

My vote is for iron grey, sorta like the casting before rust

A local shop here is powder coating stuff and told me they had some high temp stuff that would work for exhaust manifolds, but could only do it in black. Anyone tried this?
