I want tow hooks
Has anyone used tow hooks from a newer vehicle?
Something that would be common at the junkyard? Post pictures please. |

Re: I want tow hooks
The parts section would be a better place to locate Tow Hooks. Be prepared to spend $250-500 for an original set. Rumor has it that "site supporters" get better prices on parts. Now...thats just a rumor.

Re: I want tow hooks
Here's some options if you gotta have tow hooks:
Older Jeep Wagoneers (the BIG ones - '70's & older) that you see with the fake wood grain vinyl tape on the sides often had factory tow hooks, and all the newer Jeep smaller Grand Cherokees with the up-country decor & chassis package have tow hooks that aren't too bad, but I don't believe either ones of them would ever pass for GM originals, in either case. I've got two Grand Cherokees - a '96 & a '97 - both with the up-country packages, that both have stock tow hooks. I'll grab some pix tomorrow & post 'em. Too dark outside now. I had to take 'em off the back of the unibody "frame" to have a welded-on a tow bar hitch at the back, so at least one of them are kicking around in my garage somewhere. Also, take time to look on some old GM school buses or church buses in the big-truck section of the salvage yards - they also often had tow hooks, but I'm not sure if they were the same ones as our trucks had, or big economy-sized ones. |

Re: I want tow hooks
tow hooks from 88-98 G.M. trucks will bolt up to your existing frame holes. you have to use the left hook on the right side and right hook on the left side and you have to remove the strap on the left front spring hanger. other than that they'll bolt right up.

Re: I want tow hooks
Here's a set for $65 on ebay as we speak. Actually I am not sure if these are authentic, but it says they are from a 72 4 X 4.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/72-Ch...spagenameZWDVW not sure if the link works, but do a search for "chevy truck tow hooks" if it doesn't. |

Re: I want tow hooks
Here's some photos of the newer Jeep Grand Cherokee tow hooks, with the bracket assembly attached to the one I have which was removed from the unibody "frame."
I've got two of these Jeeps - a '96 (247,000 miles & going strong) & a '97 - both came with hooks (Up-Country suspension & trim package = Bilstein shocks, heavy battery & trans cooler, etc, etc). This is not a Jeep ad, though I am a fan of them. There were two hooks on the front, and one on the back, stock from the factory. There ought to be a bunch of these in salvage yards as many darn Jeeps as have been sold, or I'll bet you could order them new - direct from MOPAR. They still use these same hooks, I think. They are straight hooks (no twist) & pretty beefy: |

Re: I want tow hooks
my mom had a 91 blazer that i remember having tow hooks on the front,
she sold the truck when i was ten, but im sure that it at least had them. dont know if they would fit, look the same, or are even the right shape, but if your at the junkyard anyways, why not take a look?

Re: I want tow hooks
The yellow ones are what is often refered to as "bus" hooks. they were standard on bluebird busses and are still available new for what they are going for in that auction. I have a set of those in gray that I would let go for half that much.

Re: I want tow hooks
The 1973-I think 1980?? tow hooks are really close to fitting... you might have to elongate one of the holes on your frame to work... They don't look really bad on there, but don't have that big nasty look of the originals. Trevor

Re: I want tow hooks
Thanks guys. I'll try and go the 88-98 GM truck route. Originals would be great, but way too pricey.

Re: I want tow hooks
if you want function at an affordable price, thats the way to go. you can get those at almost any wrecking yard for next to nothing. i used those hooks on one of my 4x4s that i sold-i wanted to keep my stock 72 extreme bend hooks-and it was a pleasant surprise how well they fit, even more of a surprise was the holes even lined up.
