duramax?
It would be so so so sweet. After i get this corvette done, do i dare atempt? duramax in a blazer? the duramax transplant is getting pretty popular in the diesel power mags. Just how hard would it be? If i do it, i plan on spending around 7000 - 8000 on the blazer, so i can concentrate on the engine swap rather than fixing rust. Please talk me outta this lolol.

Re: duramax?
its alot of work you would have to beef up the frame change to a one tone drive train. No one makes anafter market computer and wiring set up for it so you would have to spend hours working that out. if you can score last months diesel power mag somewere there is a 72 step side in it with a d-max. And unless you can score the parts for one great deal think more around teh 15k mark to do it. Thats why most guys go to the 6bt it alot cheaper and easier to do and you can get the same power.

Re: duramax?
It would be nice but it sure would be expensive. Personally i'd rather go with a regular old gen 3 swap especially concerning overall price of the project.

Re: duramax?
Im building a 6.2 for my burb so I can run home brew fuel. But I dont need the power of a d-max or 6bt.

Re: duramax?
Also, I belive the Duramax and Allison come in at about 1400lbs!
Dont get me wrong, Ive got one in my truck (its great for towing and milage). But 1400lbs up front for wheelin? I dont think so. |

Re: duramax?
Been looking for a wrecked Duramax 4x4 to shorten the fram on. A body swap seems to be the easier thing to do, and you get IFS

Re: duramax?
I have been thinking about this swap as well. I think you could use a built 480le behind the duramax, which would make it a little shorter. You can't beat the tourque the new diesels put out.

Re: duramax?
Its a big combo 6ft 10 in ruffly from fan to tail shaft on the trancfer case. you may be better to go with a stick and build a nv4500 205 combo to put behind it.

Re: duramax?
This would be a way cool swap in a 67-72 chevy. It can be done but it will cost more than its worth.

Re: duramax?
actuly I think if you got it done and had to sell it for some reason you would get you money back maybe not labor but parts cost I think you would get it back out of it.

Re: duramax?
My buddy who I just told about this site is putting one into a 73 blazer (full removable top) He is boxing the frame and has to widen it by an inch. He is also doing on board air, welding and something else. He got a front end from an 87 sub with the four square lights. He fabbed in the vents from a trans am fender to get air to the duramax. He started with a very wrecked 2006 duramax he got at an insurance auction. It has been over a year and still going. Frame is finally ready. He is building a tank more than a blazer. Should be fun though. As for $$$ I am not sure but he is single and has a shop for "work" Not much for pictures yet but I'll see what he has and try to get them up. I have a 66 sb ss.
