Final mock-up pics, whatdaya think?
I finally got all (well almost) the fabrication done on the dually pickup, and I got the duals mounted on the rear. It looks like I always hoped it would. For some reason in the pics it looks longer than in person. Just standing there out there looking at it, it looks short and stocky. Its a got a real mean looking stance. Now, its time to pull it back apart and start doing the finish body work. I have pretty much decided to run the original 17.5" 1 piece wheels that came on the truck. The bigger wheels will even make it look stockier!

Re: Final mock-up pics, whatdaya think?
I would have laughed and shaken my head at the suggestion before I saw the pics. I didn't think you could do much for a dually that wouldn't look ridiculous.
It's cool and original...and actually kind of stock if GM had only thunk of it! I'm thinking one set of side markers should go...but that's just MHO. Keep the pics coming!

They were none built from the factory, but you're right, I'm definitely not the first person to build one. I have just always wanted one.

Re: Final mock-up pics, whatdaya think?
Yes, the side markers have to go. Being its a '67, I am going to fill both sets. I may put some small clearance marker lights on the dually flares like on newer duallys, but I'm not sure yet.
The 17.5's I have are only have 4 holes like 16" wheels, but they are big holes. They are also flatter than the newer more rounded wheels. Here's pic of them on it whem I first got the truck.

That thing looks mean, I like it!! Keep those stock wheels, and personally I think they look great in black, especially if you plan to keep the body red.

Re: Final mock-up pics, whatdaya think?
Now I'm jealous. I hope to build a one ton dually someday. My wife wants horses and that would be an awesome truck to pull a big ol' goose neck horse trailer with. I love the look of the stepside fenders. Like Spoof said, too bad GM didn't think of that back in 1967. It does look like it could have came from the factory that way. Good job and I can't wait to see it painted. Waht color you gonna do it in?

Re: Final mock-up pics, whatdaya think?
I'm gonna guess that the State will dictate where you put the side markers/clearance lights. Most states have widths that must have clearance lights installed.
Heck, when the '59 Chevy's were new, there were laws on the books that would have had them running around with clearance lights on top of the rear fenders. But I'm sure GM was up to speed when they built them and knew that the Feds didn't have a requirement or they would have had them from the git-go. Nice work, by the way. Now, blow it apart, gather the pieces and glue it back to together.

Re: Final mock-up pics, whatdaya think?
As for the regular side marker lights and cab lights, they weren't federally regulated until 1968. However, with this truck measuring 98" from side to side, I think I will need some type of clearance lights on the stepside fenders. All dually pickups made from 1973 up had them. 1 ton duallys were never this wide in 1967, so its kinda a thing to where there is no precedence. I do think I will include them if nothing else for the fact of me being able to see them at night, because I'm definitely going to use this truck. I'm considering adding factory style cab lights also, like Joesjunk did to his '68 C-30.
As far as color, I had always planned on buying new chrome grille surrounds and headlight buckets, chrome bumpers, and either simulators or stainless trim rings and caps, but I'm having scond thoughts now. I am also tossing the idea around of going with black, and leaving the bumpers, rims, and bumpers white, to make it look like it could have been a factory built truck, even we all know they weren't. The factory rims I'm going to use are 17.5's and I have found no simulators for a 17.5" rim with a 8 on 6.5 lug pattern. If I decide to chrome it out, I may have them chromed.

Re: Final mock-up pics, whatdaya think?
Here's a side by side shot of the factory 17.5" wheels I am going to run vs the 16's that are on it now. The 17.5's powdercoated white or chromed will look much bigger than the 16's ever will. I found a place where I can get 17.5" tires for only $93.00 each. A found out that a lot of UD and Isuzi cabovers still run 17.5's, so the tires are readily available. I love how flat and featureless the 17.5's are. They look all business to me!

Re: Final mock-up pics, whatdaya think?
WOW, That looks really good!! Great job! I like the 17.5" wheels idea too. And you should put the 69-72 style roof marker lights on it.

Re: Final mock-up pics, whatdaya think?
Thanks for the kind words guys. This thing has been a fun project. You lose track sometimes of what all you've done, and I see why shops have to charge so much to do custom projects. I couldn't tell you how many hours I have put into researching, thinking about ways to do stuff and measuring up stuff. I have WAY more time in that than I did cutting down the frame, welding the mounts for the rearend and bed, and installing the bed and fabbing the flares. Believe it not, that was the easy part!
