Can someone help Im new at this game

I have bought a 72 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 to restore, it needs alot of help Body wise and needs a tranny . I was wondering if this would work. I came across a good 69 2 wheel drive good body, good motor, good tranny, I was wondering if I could swap the stuff off the 69 and put it on the 72 to make a good truck. Will there be alot of modifications to do this? Is this a good Idea or a bad Idea? any help would be appericiated. Thanks
Tone

By the way they are both automatics I dont know if that means anything.

That sounds like a good idea. For the most part you won't have many modifications. The only differences body wise might be the tranny hump. 4x4's have the tall tranny hump, some 2wd's have a short tranny hump. If the donor cab has a short hump simply cut that one out, and bolt the tall one from the 4x4 in. That shoudl be the only real modification. I am sure you will run into problems as you go, amybe bad cab mounts or rusty bolts and such but nothing will be majorly different with the body.
Is the 69 a Chevy or GMC?

the tranny won't work, but you can sell off left over 2 wheel drive stuff to pay for the 4X4 trans.

I think you can make the tranny work isn't it just a little longer? How about some pics?

Re: Can someone help Im new at this game

If the 2wd is a 1/2 ton you will need to use the cab mounts from the 4x4. If it's a c/20 the cab mounts will work. (not that it matters you already have it from the 4x4)Other than the hump your good to go. The small hump will work but it's best to change it. Really I think that auto tranny will work with just a little effort. I was told that it will work if you cut about 2" off of the tail. I got the tip from a tranny guy.

Re: Can someone help Im new at this game

A th350 is a th350 is a th350. However a 2wd th350 has "tail" on it and a longer output shaft. To use the 2wd version you need to take the tail off and put that 4wd's output shaft in the tranny. If you're going all that work on the 4x4 tranny, you may as well just rebuild it.
