Headman header fit issue
I bought headman elite ceramic headers #69648 and frame on pass side stops install need pic's of frame mod. to correct this problem

I have heard many people say they have to notch the frame on the passenger side. I was hoping to get those also but now I am not sure.

I will NEVER use Hedmen again.....I hate the top cross over tubes and I had to dent in a few tubes to clear the frame on the right side and left lower control arm. I'm just not a fan of notching any part of the frame. Especially near the front suspension. jmho

I know alot of people like hedman. I have never had any luck using there products. They look great when you take them out of the box, but when they don't fit what good does it do. I only use hooker now, and I don't have problems anymore.

Was your truck originallly a 6-banger? If so, the top side of the frame rail is wider than the V8 truck frames. I was gonna have to notch a huge section to get those on mine, so I sent them back and got the long tubes. I only had to notch a couple places in the frame for them to fit.

DOH My bad yes it was a 6 banger sorry.still would purchase them again u only need to trim a tad out like an 1/8" if that.Oh well do what u like and be happy

I dont remember what part number these are but I had to notch both sides.

I can't understand why you can look at other header makers, and they don't have the crossover tubes going in front of the spark plugs like Hedmen and even hooker comps. But they put that tube right in the way. WHY??
It's not like they are tuned headers, and need to make up length. Just my rant......

But must guys seem to like running the wires on top and over the valve covers or use the nice looms like you have. I actually had to run them on top anyway because I ordered the wrong set of wires. But I will later get the un-cut set and run them underneath the way I like.

So in the first two pictures above thsi post, am I to understand that the fram has been shaved to allow adequate clearance for the collector?
I'm trying to understand all this because headers might be on the list for a winter project and i want to know what- all in im for. IMO, it seems like the header pipes should maintain a flatter profile while passing by the frame rail, then go together into the collector once below it. Does anyone know if it is a big problem to solve this with a 402 BB?

They told me the same thing....I told them they were right I just didn’t have a big enough hammer to make them fit without notching my frame.
I didn’t return them because I like the collector design. The drivers side collector is way too close too the bottom of the frame wall as well. Its a shame they dont fit better.

When I installed my Headman headers, the plain black one, I had to install one side from the bottom. Cant remember which. One side just dropped right in from the top, the other I had to work it through from the bottom.
Did not notch anything. |

A few of the people coment there's fit fine needed both sides notched Keep in mind we are refering to the fit in a 1972 chevy truck that does have a narrower frame and the Headman header is the short ver.
part number 500 69890 that is the elite with ball collector. now the only problem I found to this point is top of pass side frame needed a trim as the following pics will show The only other issue is possably heat off this header near the fuel line that runn allong the frame.
