Steering box interchangability 1/2 to 3/4 ton
I have a 69 GMC 1/2 ton and the manual steering box has a lot of play in it. I have adjusted the screw on the top and it still has play.
I have a 69/70 3/4 ton front half of a frame left over from a neighbours trailer project with a steering box on it. The steering box appears to be in a lot better shape than the one on my 1/2 ton. Will it simply exchange? OR should I just bite the bullet and go to power steering?

Re: Steering box interchangability 1/2 to 3/4 ton
my brother used a ps box from a 3/4 truck on his 1/2 ton. It bolted up with no problem. His manual one had nearly a 1/4 turn of play in it.

Re: Steering box interchangability 1/2 to 3/4 ton
Well after adjustment I probably have 1/4 - 3/8 of a turn in play on my current steering box.....
