Motor mount/ recall

There was a recall back in 69 (i think) cause of the motormount breaking. The fix was a cable bolted to the exaust manifold and down to the frame. Does any one have a pic of this set-up?
And the guys that are doing stock restorations, do they need this to be original?

Re: Motor mount/ recall

I am the wrong guy to be talking here but i would have to say that if there was a recall 90% of the truck owners back then has had that dun to the truck so i would say being as how it isnt really an original production part then no how ever if you plan on running th truck daily insted of it being a show truck then you may want too ither do it or keep a close eye on the mount.

So i guess im trying to say is no but then again i aint really the guy to give a good answer to that its just my opinion

Re: Motor mount/ recall

I remember the recall, my mom had a 68 Impala that had it done, the problem was the drivers side motor mount breaking from the tourque load and the engine shifting which caused the throttle linkage to stick, I don't recall ever seeing one on a truck.

Re: Motor mount/ recall

There was one on my 68. I put new motor mounts on it, and just never put the cable back.

Re: Motor mount/ recall

that was an old hotrod trick from back in the 50's with the old fords the torque strap limited movement so the shift and clutch linkage wouldnt jam when power shifting at wot// i ran a polished stainless one for many years on my 39pickup

Re: Motor mount/ recall

I wanna say the recall was in 70... I can't find my recall papers at the moment. I have them somewhere though.
The dealers installed it howeve they wanted. You'll see some looped aroun d the manifold, some bolted to the head... I'm sure there were other ways too.
I would skip it personally. I've only seen about 5 or 6 trucks with them, and no tellin how many without.

Re: Motor mount/ recall

I have them on my 68 there attached to the exhaust manifolds when I pull the motor Im going to run those conversion stands that accept the newer motor mounts so it probably wont be an issue

Re: Motor mount/ recall

On a restoration, would it be pre-recall or post-recall?It wouldn`t matter, but the original cable would be a nice touch.
