Door Panels

I have been thinking about redoing my 71 door panels. Nothing fancy just change the theme a little inside.

I want to see what you have done yourself to the panels that could be done by someone else without spending a couple of $$$$.$$. Just get idea's for my panels.

Hey Andy ,what i did on my 67 was use melamene<spell...its real thin... i traced my factory door panels and cut them out it did extend them all the way to the door...and then had the wife.. put some 1/4 ich foam and then cover them in red PLEATHER.. i will get ya some pics in the morning.... they reduced my road noise by 100% and look great to.. i am going to add a pair of 72 arm rests i baught , but havent gotten to doing that yet

yeah anytime ,,, its got dark on me , but first thing in the morning i will get them and andy i only have about 40 bucks in both sides she did my dash pad aslo.....

I had my wife do mine I have now. But all we did was put some cloth over the panel. I want a little more this time.

thanks i got the shifter knob at sead world lol ...... really it was a piggy bank..... i filled in the whole bottom and slit with 3ms 8243 and while it was sitting up i just sat a 5/8 nut into the whole....then i based the head in red and had the wife brush on some color for the teeth and eye sockets... then i cleared it....its held up for 2 years now...and only cost me 7.99 lol

I've posted these before. 72 deluxe door panel with center section from non-deluxe panel. Metal section could be chromed or painted (those were not done when I sold it). Still needed to install the arm rests.

The nice thing about this mod is it gives you the contours of the deluxe panels without having to replace your regulators or relays for the longer shafts.

Andy, this is from my '72. Very cheap, I used Formica counter top material for the insert. It was left over material from when my house was built last year.

OK,
I went to Lowes today and bought some 1/4" panel board. I bought some 3/4" steir foam also to try and make some door panels. I plan to cut out some Bow Ties in the foam then cut the door panel out so it will slip into the cutout and make the material impression...? I will post some pictures when I get the material. I have to find the right stuff.

Will 72 panels fit a 71?

I've been Told that they work if you change out the Window Regulator's, However i have not done it myself too know for Sure, Frizz posted on his Mod above that you can get Away with using the 72 panels & Use the Older Panels with them to Avoid Changing the Regulators. You May Want to PM him to Confirm This.............

That's correct. The 72 "deluxe" panels require longer shafts on the regulator and relay. Cutting out the center area and replacing it with earlier sections or custom material gets around this.

I haven't had a day off in 14 days working nightshift 12 hrs. The door panel is cut to fit but that's all I have done so far. I'll keep you posted as I do anything.
