I am experiencing an excessive amount of body roll. I have stock suspension and about 40,000 miles on my truck; also 235-75-16 Goodyear rubber on stock 16x6.5 steel wheels. Does anybody know the problem and/or how to resolve? I am thinking about upgrading my sway bar but the stock bar seems pretty beefy already. Would my shocks be worn out? Tires?

i'd start off by getting rid of the stock front coils and dropping it with a 2/4. than go with maybe some 20's and a lower profile tire. stock suspension and stock sized tires are going to increase the body roll on an already heavy truck

Change the shocks. The factory shocks are valved too soft, and they are junk.

Thanks for the info guys.

The reason I'm not modifying this truck is because I need large diameter tires to deal with the snow up here (I've driven my share of lowriders through harsh winters -- I'm done with that!) My '56 will scrape the pavement in the summer months.

I think I'm going to change my shocks first. Any advice on shocks...Bilstein, Monroe, Rancho? Right now I'm eyeing the Rancho RS5000's.

RS5000 ride very rough, if you go for Ranchos, get the RS9000s. Bilstein is a much better choice if you want to maintain a reasonably nice smooth ride

does that truck have coil front springs? or does it have torsion bars? I only ask because I know the 4WD and AWD trucks do as well as 2WD Tahoe/Yukon's. If so...just give your t-bars a tweak or better yet buy some lift keys.

...and check out your front sway bar ends to make sure everything is OK there. or even upgrade to a larger sway bar.

I run Monroe Gas Magnums. Very good shock for a heavy truck. Can't tell you much about ride quality being that I have 3/4 ton springs, but the handling is great. They seem to last a LONG time. I had a set of middle grade Monroe's on my old 78, they had 10+ years of hard use on them and while they didn't respond like a new shock after all that, they were still responded and felt good when they were taken off...I could have kept on using them with no problem.

Funny story...My 77 GMC had the ORIGINAL shocks on the rear when I bought it. No joke. The truck was kinda scary to ride in, but not terrible because the 3/4 springs don't give much anyway. Upon removing them, you could just pump them up and down with no resistance, they weren't doing ANYTHING.
