Shift Linkage
I have a 70 CST that had a TH350 in it. I have replaced it with a 700R4 and the linkage from the frame to the transmission is off by about an inch. Has anyone else done this swap, and did you have to modify the linkage in any way?
"Off by an inch" I mean if I put the shift linkage on the frame it will not meet up with the coupler on the transmission. Vise versa if I put the linkage on the transmission, the hole in the linkage bracket is off from the mounting bracket from the frame.

Re: Shift Linkage
I put a 700 in a 72 GMC I used to have a few years ago, took out a th400. I didn't have to modify or change anything except I used the shifter bracket thingy (the part on the trans itself that the linkage hooks on that swivels when you shift gears) from the old trans to the 700, and I had to adjust the rod that goes from the base of the column down to the trans.

Re: Shift Linkage
i replaced a inline 250 with a 700 and nabbed some th350 linkage from a junkyard and got it all to work with no modifications to the linkage. you may have to move the frame bracket to get it to work properly. i didnt have to but work backwards, hook up the frame bracket and trans likage and then adjust the rod up at the steeting column. good luck

Re: Shift Linkage
I am using a Lokar rod type linkage on mine...
When I did the swap from TH350 to 700R4 nothing changed...so I suppose what chris71 said is probably right - just move it back on the frame a little maybe, because the overall distance should be about the same. DLB |
