what year Caddy Motor?
What year 472 or 500 Caddy motors are the most wanted ones? I drive around quite a bit here and there for work, and that would add something interesting to the trips........ maybe the year does not matter on them, but it always did on Muscle car motors.,....... thanks, kent

Re: what year Caddy Motor?
look pre-emissions engines from 66/67to 71. don't quote me, but I believe 472's were available in that time frame. the 500's were being installed in most devilles in the early 70's.
big horsepower and torque at low rpms. |

You need an Eldorado (front wheel drive) to get the right pan that will work in our trucks.
Longhorn Man or one of the other fellas thats running Caddy power will see this thread and chime in with the exact rides you need to look for. |

Re: what year Caddy Motor?
They had the 472 all the way up to 1973 I know. We had a one owner 20K mile Caddy that was in the family until 1989. The 500 was in Eldorados and had more HP per/ci than the 472 if memory serves. I used to sneak it out and that thing one make a one tire fire for a 1/4 mile. I was 15 or 16 yrs old then though..

Re: what year Caddy Motor?
let me get mine first, we don't want to start a bidding war!
I getting a little knowledge on them now. the '71 (500)is the one I'm looking for . 8.5-1 compression, earlier 500's are up to 11:1. the '71 is apparently a b**ch to get out.

Re: what year Caddy Motor?
if it's for the street, i say get the 71 - 76 500. (no such thing as a 501) the low compression does give up some power, but the hi compression engines struggle with todays fuel.
Don't over look the 425 cad... I get 15 - 16 MPG on the open road with mine, and that's with 4.10 gears in a one ton truck, and it still has enough torque to make you crap yourself. |
