Thinking about getting a newer truck and like the 99+ body style (except for 03+ chevy). Was curious if there are any years to avoid (e.g. probs, recalls) and any other "problem" areas I should look for? Thanks guys.

the only thing i'd watch for is high mile 4l60e transmissions for 99-02..i think in 03 they went to a 65e. a rebuilt 4l60 should treat you well if properly rebuilt with the "good" stuff

What would be considered "high miles" on these years? Also, what would be a rough estimate on a good rebuilt 60?

It all depends what truck it is in and how it is driven. A heavy truck (extended cab or 4x4 with larger tires) is going to be a bit harsher on the transmission. I have seen some go at 35k miles and i've also seen some hold up to 230k miles. 03+ trucks have drive by wire throttle instead of the cable throttle offered from 99-02. In the 04+ trucks, the fuel filters are non serviceable. Thats really no big deal with either of these, but some people dont like it. I would opt for an 03 personally but thats just my choice. Also, a 60e rebuild is roughly $1200.

well...i've seen them go at 25,000 and mine lasted till 73,000. i was hard as hell on mine also. some are lucky..some are not. trucks that came with a factory tow package had tranny coolers..they tend to lat a little longer. you can find rebuilds from 1200 and up. if you buy a truck without a cooler..i'd install one
