how tight?
can any one tell me how tight this nut(see picture) should be?pulled gearbox and transfer out yesterday,had a funny noise in gearbox after it had been drove for about 3/4 of an hour,front bearing on input shaft isnt real good and the nut on the output shaft isnt tight,the only thing holding it on was the tabbed washer! the gearbox and transfer is a sm465 and a np205('78 k-20)

ive just noticed a number on the edge of the nut,80n.would this be a torque setting or a part number??

thanks for the link,but the nut im talking about is on the sm465 and not the np205,sorry for the confussion

I've never torqued it myself. I clean up the threads real good, put on some blue Loctite & tighten the **** out of it
