Drop ?
I have leafs on the rear of my 71, and was thinking that I might just run my axle on top of the leafs. Has anyone done this? Is it safe? and finally how much drop would it give me?
I am also considering painting my rims black. Pictures of the look I am going for. Last edited by TexanC3; 11-02-2007 at 10:27 AM. |

Re: Drop ?
I'm guessing that picture is "photoshopped". The rear suspension is shown about as low as it can go without modifying the bed.
To answer your questions, Yes, Yes and 5.5 to 6 inches. With that amount of drop you will also need to C-notch your frame. Once the flip is completed and the axle is below the springs, you can add lowering blocks to drop it even more (if needed). Here is a picture of mine. It is a leaf spring truck on airbags with an air-over-leaf system in the back running 275-55-17's (about 29" tall). Aired out, the "static" drop on the rear is about 8-9".

Re: Drop ?
Off subject here, but c10-driver, that's one of the nicest trucks I've ever seen. I hope mine will look that good one day.

Re: Drop ?
Thanks for the compliments guys. To get back to TexanC3's original post, I think I like the black ralley wheels. I have 8" ralleys on my white '94 longbox and have been trying to decide lately what color to powdercoat them. I was thinking maybe white or staying with the stock "silver" color but I like the black. Anyone else out there have pics of ralleys in different colors?

Re: Drop ?
My C10 had black rally wheels on it when I bought it. I didn't care for em, they were one of the first things I changed.

Re: Drop ?
Texan you could just buy the Spring Saddles...and cut your old ones off and weld the new ones on the bottom.... but pinion angles are critical for proper drive line ... i have done this before....but measure alot IMO a flip kit would be the easiest......... C-10 driver... i love your truck.... oh and i got the paint.....thanks...for the info.... hopefully im am going to have the long bed version of your truck...............

And, I agree - The flip kits look pretty straightforward. They figure in all those complicated things like driveline angles. I cut the perches off mine and welded them back on the other side with help from some very experienced people. If I was doing it myself, I would rather use a kit... It takes some of the guessing out of the process.

Re: Drop ?
I buy my axle saddles at the local trailer supply house for 15 bucks a set. Saves all of the hassle of grinding on the old ones.
A saddle don't care if it's on a GM 12bolt truck rearend or a horse trailer axle.
