cable vs. rod for carb
Can anyone tell if there is a compelling reason to change from the stock rod configuration for your throttle linkage to cable? Is the response different? Are there any serious safety issues? Putter has a good thread for converting to cable, but if there isn't much difference, then I'll leave it stock. Is there another method of converting besides Putter's that people have tried? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

If you break an engine mount, the rod can cause the throttle to stick wide open when the engine lifts. That won't happen with a cable.
I'm either going to add some kind of safety cable around the frame to the engine, or go to a cable some day. |

I was considering converting to the LOKAR firewall mounted Throttle pedal with cable versus the factory floor mount style I currently have. However this is further down on my list of priority's right now.

Many of the trucks I owned had rod linkage and never gave me any trouble. I personally wouldn't change it.

in 71 they chainged becouse of the number of motormounts that were breaking. If you hit the throttle and pop the drivers side mount, the engine will lean over and lock the throttle or even open the throttle more. This was a big enough problem that there was a recall, and we all know how much the bean counters hate spending money on recalls.
With that being said, I wouldn't bother personally. |

had bought lokar but looking at my application i would of only used 6 inches of it so returned it and went back with rod.

they have alternatives to LOKAR that are less expensive.

I can't remember if I went off of putters plans or who's, but somebody on here does have a good build on converting to cable
If you look in my build thread you can see what I did, I did it just to have swing pedal & be different But I can't tell that it drives any different than a "rod" style throttle |

I say skip the cable and go with a wire. It's a little more of an upgrade though (5.3L DBW )
