wheels and diskbrake interfearence rant !!!

i am so sick, i could puke! i looked forever to find the perfect rims for my project. Cragar ss 15 x 8 with new white letter radials. absolutely perfect.
standard offset for the front and reversed for the rear. i bolted on the rears no problem, looks great ! then on to the front. the rims are the correct 5 on 5 bolt pattern but they hit the disk caliper!!! grrrrrr. i'll cut this short, i have to go puke now.!!!
(anybody got a five lug drum setup they could donate?) lol.
oh i am sick !!!

Re: wheels and diskbrake interfearence rant !!!

I'm not sure where it's hitting, but you might be able to grind the caliper down in that area. I had the same problem with the rear disks kit I bought as it wouldn't clear my 15 inch wheels. I'm going with 17in wheels, but use the 15's on there to move the truck around and I don't care what happens to them, so I used washers to space the wheel out far enough so it would clear.

I've run lots and lots of Cragars S/S wheels on these trucks, nary a problem. I buy them from Summit.

Are you sure they're 15 inchers?

Re: wheels and diskbrake interfearence rant !!!

All you need is a set of wheel spacers, they are cheap and readily available had to run them back in the day with a set of Keystone rims I had on my 71 with discs I will recomend longer wheel studs so the proper amount of threads go into the head of the shank style lug nut. I've seen guys run them with just threads in the shank and the shank broke and seperated from the head of the nut and the wheel fell off. This is something to check with or without spacers when running that style of lug nut.

Re: wheels and diskbrake interfearence rant !!!

I've had to grind on a brand new drop spindle where the caliper mounts because of interference. Put different spindles on the truck and no interference at the calipers but now the lower A arm knocks weights off on sharp turns.

I also have a 71 with 15 x 10 wheels with no interference on stock spindles.

Are these uni-lug by chance? Can they also fit 5 x 4 3/4? There is a kit to change stock pre 71 spindles to car rotors that would be smaller diameter if you can't clearance or don't want to use a spacer.

I'm sure there are some other choice too. I just can't think of any.
