3/4 ton front driveshaft
I was wondering if the drive shaft on a 1970 C/20 4x4 is suppose to be the small as the one on the Blazer. My 3/4 ton front driveshaft has only 2 U-joints unlike my Blazer which has 3, 2 in that CV style joint. Any knowledge would be appreciated. Reason I am asking is, I just bought the truck and have discovered a few re-engineered items that make me question things that look suspicious, and the welds on the front drive shaft don’t look like what I am use to seeing on 1970 trucks.

Re: 3/4 ton front driveshaft
My 69 K20 didn't have a cv joint on it's front driveshaft and I'm positive it was the stock one. Don't know about the one on my 70 K5 as it was gone when I bought the vehicle. Both trucks currently are using cv joint front driveshafts.

Re: 3/4 ton front driveshaft
I have 3 u-joints on my 1970 k20 front drive shaft. I'm pretty sure they are original, at least they still have spicer u-joints in there, got them all cleaned up and I see spicer stamped into all the bearing cups.

Re: 3/4 ton front driveshaft
Do you have any pics of the front driveshaft you are talking about?
If you can see anything in the pic..this is what a stock front driveshaft looks like.At the t-case end, there are 2 u joints, and another at the axle end.Maybe there is a newer driveshaft on your truck? |

Re: 3/4 ton front driveshaft
I'm 99% sure 1970's had the cv joint. When I converted my 1970 2x4 to 4x4, I lengthened the 1971 front driveshaft that I used and removed the cv joint. Unless it's being used with full time 4x4, it's not needed.
