motor issues
the engine that came with my 69 c10 was a 283 and it was running funny when i got it and i wanted to build it up so i pulled it a while ago and im just getting to working on it and i was tearing apart the engine andi noticed that the timming cover had flathead screw heads as far as i can tell the whole engine is stock and the guy i got it from said all he ever did was regular maintnece so i ran the numbers on the block to see if that might help and it says the engins a 59 283 did all the engines in 59 have screws in place of bold for the timming cover?
also whats the best way to get a stuck 350 unstuck?

I don't know about the timing cover but my guess is if that 283's from '59, it's had some work done on it at some point besides regular maintenance.
What do you mean about the 350? Is it seized? |

well i dont know why the motor is stuck we tried turning over at my uncles junkyard where it is stored right now and i dont want other people working on it so i dont get to mess with it a whole lot but the freeze plugs are all still in and there is antifreeze in the radiator and the oil is full but its really black and its pretty old oil im shure
we didnt try with plugs or anything to get itstarted we just wanted to turn it over so we knew it wasnt stuck cause iwant to rebuild it someday when i have the money. so what would be the best option other then pulling and dissasembling? or is the the best option? thanks

I've unstuck a couple of rusty engines. The first one I squirted an oil/diesel mixture into the spark plug holes with a squirt type oiler. After I finally got it unstuck, I ran it without the plugs to get most of the oil/diesel mixture out. The second one I removed the heads and soaked the pistons with straight diesel for a few days. I mainly wanted to get the pistons unstuck. I wasn't going to use them for regular driving at the time.
In both cases I rebuilt the engine for excessive oil burning. They were in pretty bad shape to begin with... |

Yep some came with screws instead of bolts,allso you can squirt some atf in the plug holes and let it soak for a few days.
