250 with intergral head vs regular 250

I have a intergral head 250 6 from a 1977 camaro. I want to put it in my 1969 GMC short step that has a regular 250-6 The GMC engine is bad -cracked cylinder wall. but the head is good. The camaro engine runs good. so I am asking well the camaro 250 fit in the truck. And if I took the head off the camaro engine will the GMC head fit? any help would be wonderfull. I want to keep the truck a 6 and add a T5 to it.

Me too! The integral head was trouble when it came out. The 292's never used them.

From my experience you can change out the head while its out of the vehicle, or put it in the truck, and then change it. Either way you will probably end up changing because the integral head is troublesome more often than not. I'd do it before you put it in the truck because it would be much easiler!

Basicfish is asking two questions.

1. Can he use the engine from Camaro-will it bolt up to the GMC?

2. Will the non intergral head bolt up to the Camaro engine with intergral head?

Re: 250 with intergral head vs regular 250

in response to gmsee,

the bellhousing patterns are the same. so, it will bolt up.

as for the T5, it CAN work. but, it takes some reworking of the input shaft and possibly bolt holes. i'm not sure of the specifics, but there are threads all about it.
