Ok, How is the oil filler tube attached? Is it just pressed in? I really need to get it out of the way...routing the water outlet around the filler tube is not really what I want to do. I might just put a little indent in it to make clearance...that would work!

yes its pressed in...the manifold will have a hole that will need to be sealed..one of those expandable freeze plugs work well

Thanks Jim...figured as much but I had to ask. I might try to use it since I hate to cut a new hole in the valve covers...not like this is show truck as you can see from the engine compartment...still trying to make it a daily driver...LMAO!

Wouldn't it be easier just to find another filler neck with a different offset? That setup can't have been the original one as it wouldn't have been designed with no clearance like that.

If you plug it, won't you block off your engine ventilation? The valve covers are non vented, and I assume that the engine has the rear vent cast into the block. Blocking the vents will cause pressure in the engine and oil leaks.

Just a thought.

You have a '67 intake but the coolant thermostat housing is from something in the '80s. Try to find a housing with out the sensors and one for a '67 so it will clear the oil tube. That way you don't have to mess with pulling and plugging that oil filler tube.

When you have a filler tube, the water housing faces forward or to the passenger side. You could use that style water neck and a flex hose. Or if you don't like the look of a flex hose like me, go to the parts store and match one up.

I have the original one...you can actually see it in the top of the picture but it requires a funky corrugated hose to be routed around the filler neck. I like the more direct route using the formed hose. I may change valve covers and put the filler and vent over there anyway. There are lots of ways to "skin" this cat...just looking for the one that will please me the most. I may even change the inlet manifold to a later version witout the filler in which case I would have to fill through the valve cover anyway.

You are all correct in your assumptions and suggestions...I pulled this filler neck off my '70's 305, hoping it would clear and allow me to use the formed hose...every little change presents new challenges...what fun!

BTW...I love that 409!

Since this oil filler tube was on the 67-68's, all you need to do is use the upper radiator hose for that year of truck instead of the universal accordian flex hose.
