Pics of newly acquired gauge clusters
Here are a couple of my latest. (look close) I have some that are just hanging around to gawk at in my basement. The tach came out of a truck that was half crushed already. They even had to pick it up and turn it over with a track-hoe so i could get in it and remove it. The things you do for parts. Enjoy...

Re: Pics of newly acquired gauge clusters
That looks like a diesel tach... The needle is totally different, and the maximum RPM is 4k, with a 3200 redline.
I have to wonder why the vacuum gauge is in the same cluster...

Re: Pics of newly acquired gauge clusters
saw the Canadian gauge pod and first thought, WOW a 160 mph speedo!!! what the heck did they use that in? Then I noticed kilometers per hour.

Re: Pics of newly acquired gauge clusters
1970cst, You are correct. It is a diesel tach. I have another diesel tach with a different redline and no vac gauge. However, it has a "low vacuum" idiot light in the fuel gauge...
tcb, it is my understanding that almost all of the canadian trucks had the MPH. I think most of the KPH gauges were overseas. This particular one came from a 68 burb in sweeden.

Re: Pics of newly acquired gauge clusters
Where did that KPH speedo cluster come from?
(The only other one I've ever seen was some guy on this board from Europe or Finland or something) Or was there a year or 2 that they were available in Canada? Edit... Saw the answer to this after I posted. Had my hopes up that there may be some of these KPH speedo clusters in Canada. Last edited by HD2000; 11-15-2007 at 12:35 AM. Reason: Question was answered |

Re: Pics of newly acquired gauge clusters
Is the diesel tach mechanical or electric? It seems that I've seen some that were mechanical.DST

Re: Pics of newly acquired gauge clusters
Down south, it is mechanical. Looks like the same set up as the back of the speedometer.

Re: Pics of newly acquired gauge clusters
All the diesel ones were mechanical
no canadian trucks came with KPH speedos, Canada didn't convert till the late 70's/early 80's if I'm not mistaken. You know, about the time we were supposed to convert. The Diesel would have a vac guage becouse there was a vac pump bolted to the engine. There was no hydrovac back then, and some ppl just don't like air brakes. |

Re: Pics of newly acquired gauge clusters
Wow, i thought i would post some pics of some unusual dash clusters to share and now it looks like this thread is about the common dash in a refurbished state... And how to build or buy one. Nothing negative towards anybody, but lets stay on topic.
