2 10" subs
OK here is the deal:
As of now I have 2 10" subs, 2 - 3 way speakers under the seat running off a old 4 channel amp. 25 watts per speaker, 2 tweeters mounted on the door panels that are running just off the radio out puts that have the crossover thing in line for them not to blow up. The amp is hooked up with 2 RCA cables to the amp from radio. Question: How would I go about hooking up a higher powered amp to the 10" sub and use the old one for the other 4 speakers. I want to put the 3 way and the tweeters on the old amp and I'll buy a new amp for the 10's. It's in a 1971 C-10 pickup. Thanks

Re: 2 10" subs
LOL.....Simple.....I've got a similar setup in my '69. I have a 400W 4-channel amp powering my front 5.25" component speakers/tweeters in the kickpanels and my rear 6.5" 2-way speakers. Also, I have an 300W 2-channel amp bridged, powering my 10" sub. Then I have a 1 farad capacitator to help power it all.
Here's how you gotta do it: Your 4-channel amp has 2 front outputs and 2 rear outputs. It puts out the same wattage per all 4 channels. So you can wire in your 3-way speakers to each rear channel and your tweeters to each front channel. This should increase the capabilites of your tweeters quite a bit. Then for your 2 subwoofers you have some options. It depends on the amp that you buy, what impedence your subs are, and whether they are single or dual. Are you gonna buy a mono-channel or a 2-channel amplifier? Are your subs 2 or 4 ohms? Do your subs have single or dual voice coils (ie. 1 or 2 wire hook-ups)?

Re: 2 10" subs
All I can tell you about the subs are that they have a 2 wire hookup, that's all I know about them. I don't know anymore than that except I bought them at Wally World.

Re: 2 10" subs
OK....So hook up your old amp to your speakers and tweeters like I mentioned previously.
Then, for your new 4-channel amp that you picked up for your subs you gotta bridge it to both of them. On the amp there are 4 rear hook-ups and 4 front hook-ups. It should say on it which ones you gotta hook up to "bridge" the channels. It will be one + and one - terminal on both the front and rear connections. This will increase the power from the amp going to your subs. The bridged front channel will go to one sub and the bridged rear channel will go to the other sub. Here is a pic to show you what I mean: For more information on wiring your DVC (dual voice coil) subwoofers check out this link to Rockford Fosgate's subwoofer wiring wizard: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp

Re: 2 10" subs
Thanks for the info.
The old amp can be used with RCA cords or the regular speaker wire hookups. I only have 2 RCA cords now. I will be checking in on here when I start the wiring. I have to get the truck back first. I have to clean the old wiring up some to. THANKS again!

Re: 2 10" subs
I would rather see you use RCA Y adaptors than using the hi level (wire) connections. A "Y" adaptor will allow you to use another set of RCA cables for another amp. Most stereos have a couple sets on them, have you looked to see if there are any more on the radio?

Re: 2 10" subs
I have the Y connector's. I didn't know this would work. That's cool that's the way I'll go.

Re: 2 10" subs
Here is some pictures of what I have got. 2 -10" subs behind the seat
Tweeter's mounted where the coat hanger was on the passenger side and copied it over to the driver's side. Three way's under the seat. The sound is a lot differant since I mounted the tweeter's where I did. Very pleased and it took about 20 minutes to do.
