Factory tilt columns
Maybe a stupid question but, did 67-72 pickups come with factory tilts? If so, what years and models?

Re: Factory tilt columns
, I have yet to find a oe comfortilt in anything but 71 and newer GM trucks, have also only seen it listed in the 71 and newer truck lit. The 63 fullsize/Impala was the first model/year for comfortilt in the chevy car lineup. Can anyone show a pic of any 70 or even 69 factory truck lit./ad's listing comfortilt in the comfort and convenience option section? Cb

Re: Factory tilt columns
Were are all the old parts guru's now, it's getting deeper? Can any one out there say that they have seen a solid lower shaft 68 truck tilt column? With 69 being the first year for the lower collapsible intermediate shaft (gm added for safety) between the column and the steering gear on trucks, that phantom 68 tilt column would have to look something like a 64-67 chevelle or gto tilt column with the full length shaft from steering wheel to steering gear. Can anyone post a pic of any 1970 or earlier truck spid listing N33 or 1N3310 comfortilt steering? Cb

Re: Factory tilt columns
I had a 1970 GMC, loaded w/shoulder harness & AT tilt. That is the only pre-71 I have ever seen in 20+ years. Probably a real late 70 that got the new tilt installed just before they came out as a regular option.

Re: Factory tilt columns
the best way is to have about 500$ to spend and get one from the parts board.. when they come available
or convert a van tilt to work... i think vans til '78 or so will work. |

To 1LIME69: Sorry your from the USA! But anyway, maybe use your eyes and a tape measure plus the information already provided to determine if the column will work.

Re: Factory tilt columns
I've used motorhome tilts up well into the 80's for donors. They swap straight in, like a van column.

Re: Factory tilt columns
50 is a decent price for a van column, so you'll come out ahead either way.

Re: Factory tilt columns
Ive got a van column but it needs to be rebuilt. Thats why I want to get a factory column. Also the factory column would have all of the right grommets and seals on it.

Re: Factory tilt columns
I'm from Canada too... and not sorry about it.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1195182103 Note factory key points, like location of neutral safety switch on lower portion of column and the short lenght of splined shaft sticking out the bottom. My Dealer data book from 1970 shows an option of steering comfortilt dated in January 1970 but also say will advise price and availability and optional transmision had to be ordered. So no three speed tilts. Not sure if there were further updates to the data book as the year progressed.
