Moving and need to get my truck to Missouri from California

The title says it all I am building up a 67 chevy its all together now however the engine is crap and I do not have time to build up a new one before I move. Does anyone know of any trucking companies that would haul it? Any help would be great guys I'm on a bidget being in the military and have to move all of my house hold goods as well.

buy a towbar and hang it behind the moverstruck only need to disconnect the driveshaft for that

If the military is changing your duty station, don't they have to move your stuff, too? If you are an E-4 over 4 years, they should be doing it. Don't know about the vehicle thing....it may be that only personal belongings and household possessions are eligible. If they move everything else, all you may have to move are the vehicles. Get a tow bar and go for it, unless your other vehicle isn't suitable for towing your truck.

I had a '38 GMC, when I was in Tucson, back in '71. I traded it for a utility trailer so I could rely on my transportation abilities. I didn't have time to go through the rear end and repack the front end before I left. But the trailer was a touch bigger than the bed of the GMC. It just didn't have the same panache. Rust-free, 99% complete....a $50 deal, plus the tires I put on it. Tis a shame, tis a shame.

The Military will move all your stuff right?. I say flat bed trailer, load it up with stuff too.

I used DAS to move a car from the east coast to the west coast. No problems. It took a little longer than I wanted, but it was in the middle of winter. Guess I can cut em a little slack for that.

If there is enough left in the motor to get it in the movers truck they will haul it with the rest of your stuff. When I moved from Phoenix to Portland Oregon they pulled my 64 Short Wide in the moving van after they packed everything else in. Good Luck with your move. ditto... Do a DITY move (DO IT YOURSELF) and let the military pay you for the weight. (trailer, truck or R&L shippers) I have done about 5 DITY's over my years and it pays a few grand$$$ in the end....

There's a lot of exclusions when the feds pay to move your stuff, but there's ways around it.
They will not move your vehicle, parts, or anything that can be used for a buisness. When i did my ditty, they wouldn't even pay for a dpolly or trailer for the 2nd vehicle. So i told them I was driving the moving van, the now ex wife was driving her truck, and my brother (who doesn't even exist) was driving my truck.
They payed me the gas $$ for 3 vehicles.
I bought a tow bar, strapped it to the back of the moving van, and haulled ass north.

It may be the too many vehicles restriction going there. They'll usually only pay for 2 driver's like Longhorn was saying, but they'll pay for the gas for as many as you have to drive! Dity is the way to go and if you can get it inside the moving van with your stuff and not be over your weight limit(by paygrade) you'll make money on the deal. Or you can do like you are thinking and pay someone to ship it. Of course, if it is only your second of two cars, they should pay to ship it for you! Check the JTFR and see what you are entitled to if the personal property folks won't help you out. Good luck and tell us where you are going in MO. My farm is 2 hours from Ft. Wood. I went to Basic there the first time...another story altogether...

Doing a dity move they do pay for all of your gas and there's no limit to the weight either. I did two dity moves one from connecticut to arkansas and one from arkansas and washington. for the first one i was an E-3 and i had more weight than i did as an E-4 when i did the second one. The military will pay for everything. make sure you get copies of all your expenses. Like everyone is saying hook the truck up to the movers truck and go on about your way

there is tons of conflicting info here... don't take it all as truth.
We all know the gov chainged rules and regs like crazy.
When I did my ditty in 01, you were forbidden to put a vehicle IN the moving truck.
However, we have thrown out a few options over having it shipped. Go look into these options... talk to your transportation ppl, weigh your options.

I am an Admin guy with the USMC and perhaps i could be of assistance since I get paid to know such things. First off they will not move any vehicle within CONUS (continential United States). But, they will pay you to move up to 2 vehicles while doing a DITY move or a partial DITY move. The partial is where they move all your household goods but you move all of your required items ie. uniforms, gear, etc. You shold also be getting paid per diem for your travel days. And 15 cents per mile (add 2 cents per depn up to 19 cents total). Also you will get paid Dislocation Allowance which is dependant on your rank and if you have dependants or not. This is all per the Joint Federal Travel Regulations manual. Which is the required reference for all departments of the DOD.

I just used A-AAA auto movers to ship my truck from oregon to colorado. They were pretty unorganized but they got it there fast (2.5 days) and were the cheapest by about 300 bucks.

I am actually getting out of the navy. The engine is not the only issue NOW the coil springs on the ass are gone so what i did was i started stripping the truck down yesterday. since I am going to be loading the truck with the help of some very strong friends. We are just going to put the truck in the back of the uhaul and go from there. The only down side I have to cut the frame in half and of course reassemble the truck later. What better way to do a frame off hey. For those that were asking where in Missouri My wife and I will be in the Columbia area We just bought a house there that is about 15 miles north of Columbia already has a workshop for me so I'm good to go working on the old truck and drinking beer

If you need any help during the moving process, look me up. I'm around the Jefferson City area, which is only about 30 miles south of Columbia. At least you'll be moving into a place that will have a shop to "reassemble" the truck.
