Blazer tailgate panel on fleetside tailgate

I want to install a blazer tailgate panel on my truck tailgate. I already did a relocation kit for the handle. I have a blazer panel but it does not fit very well. Does anyone have any tricks to make this happen. Do I need any other parts to make this work. Any info would help. Thanks

Re: Blazer tailgate panel on fleetside tailgate

I used the back bracket of the truck trim. I also trimmed about a 1/8th of a inch off each side so it fit more flush. I'll post some pics soon. Hope that helps.

It take some playing with, and it still doesn't fit "perfect" but it can be close.

Always liked that look, especially on the '73-'80 with all the side trim. Clean way to tie it all together.

How do you remove these panels? I want to add one to mine, and want to keep a lookout for a decent one in the yards for now. I have no idea how to get them off execpet grab and yank!

Question Re: Blazer tailgate panel on fleetside tailgate

I recently bought a brand new Chevrolet tailgate at the swap meet, and I want one of these center panels to hide the CHEVROLET in the center because mine is a GMC and I like the smoothy look. What models came with this piece of trim ?!? Also does anybody have the diagram of the mechanism inside the gate, because I'd like to relocate my release to the bottom?!?

Re: Blazer tailgate panel on fleetside tailgate

bluex,... There are screws on the "inside" or "bed side" of the tailgate, that attach to brackets. I think there are four total.

Re: Blazer tailgate panel on fleetside tailgate

Bluex, if you want to remove the panel from a blazer you have to go from the inside of the tailgate. Once you remove the panel you can remove the mounting bracket and install the bracket from a truck if you want to install it on a truck. I hope this helps you.
