4x4 question
I am not sure I am actually going to do this, but I want to find out what it would take.
Ok, if I had a 1972 swb 4x4 frame (with the springs, and the crossmembers) and a np205 t-case/th400 tranny, and d44/corp 14 bolt axles, what else would I need to make a 4x4 truck that I couldn't get from a 2wd 67-72? The main thing I can think of is the steering linkage, but what else?

Steering gear box. High hump transmission tunnel cover. That's all that comes to my mind right now.

Thanks. That's about all I could think of too. I can probably get anything I need off of a 73-87 4x4 for free, and then I would buy a complete 2wd 67-72. The steering was the main thing I wasn't sure about. Anybody else have any ideas?

You ever going to give thought to going to a big block? Maybe would be a good time to just go ahead and use a 73-up engine crossmember and towers. Not sure if they are a benefit with a small block, but at least you would have the benefit if you should ever go up to a larger engine. Now would be an easy time to do it.

Hey. You will also need front and rear drive shafts, front 4x4 bumper brackets. You may be able to cut some and make them work. You will need rear bumper brackets off of a GMC or a 4x4 (sport bumper) to work with the leaf spring mounts. I don't think the hump is the same on a 73-up, but don't take my word for it. The trans linkage is a little different but you might get yours to work. Also the e-brake cable is different and the fan shroud is different. You can probably get around some of these things. Good Luck!
