Once I get this bed installed this winter I want to try and give it the best possible and practicle protection. With this said...Would you use spray liner in this bed for protection or get a good quality rubber bed floor mat?

Well..with rubber mats my experience is stay away from them if its ever going to be in the rain or snow,etc but since you just got one of the best darn longbeds out there for your truck I'd imagine you won't.I had a '71 Custom Deluxe/10 that had a rubber mat in the bottom.I pulled it out to find that the moisture under it ate away the bed...You won't have that issue though if you are keeping it out of the weather..The plus to one is that it is removable...A spray in bed liner is good but you need to make sure there is no moisture on it before having it sprayed in or the moisture will be stuck in there.They also are pretty much permanent unless you want to damage a paint job getting it all off.Are you going to haul anything in it? If so,what? On such a nice truck,I'd prefer to look at a nice painted bed and not a spray in liner or a mat.If there's ever a situation of hauling something I might keep one to throw a rubber mat in when I need to and then remove it when done.

My truck will be kept in the garage and will be used for DD fun and an occasional errand. I might hual some odds and ends plus corn for the feeding station but the corn will be bagged. It will not see snow if I can help it. I want to rust proof the underside of the bed and inner fenders before it goes on the frame. Maybe por 15?

the rubber and plastic beds can create moisture in your bed. My uncle has a ford truck and its a 95 or 96 model but it is a farm truck it has way more dents and dings than my 70 gmc. He does have to take out the mat and it is starting to get pretty rusty under the mat. I seen a plastic one it also builds up moisture. If I ever get my truck fixed I will coat it with Rhino linings in wilmington or fayetteville.

I just have a SWB, but I'm gonna have it Rhino'd. Probably will put a tonneau cover on it, but I just want the inside of the bed to look good to the next person, after I am gone, as in "Gee, I'm sure glad Dad had the bed Rhino'd before he died. It still looks good after 20 years!"

If you think you may want to be able to see the steel bed someday dont spray it. Its almost impossible to get it out once it's in. Ive always liked the under the rail bed liners myself. Ive never had a problem with water getting under them and causing rust issues.

I picked up a nice 71 k20 earlier this year and it had the spray on liner. The thing I dont like about it is I cant slide stuff in easily like I can on my plastic lined truck. Course I think thats also one of the things people like...stuff wont slide around as easily.

Use a bed mat when you haul and remove the rest of the time.Or,use moving quilts.The only spray-in liner I`d ever use is Line-X because it`s hot-applied and has an attractive uniform texture,like a vinyl top.Rhino looks like cottage cheeze.

I used a bedmat before I built my garage. My truck sat outside 365 days a year for 3 years and the floor didn't get messed up with a mat because the mat has little bumps that raise it up for airflow. I had my daily driver sprayed with Line-X and love it!. Heres a pic of my 70' when I removed the mat before I made my carpeted bedliner. The floor held up great and didn't rust. I don't use my bed to haul anything other than my chairs for cruises!

bed liners are too slippery. When I get my new bed on, I will get a rubber mat, since the spray-ons are pretty much permantent.

I think from the input thus far I am leaning towards the rubber bed mat. I will do little hauling and it will be kept in the garage out of the weather. I will give the underside good rust proofing of some sort. It sounds as if there is different quality of mats and it is important that I purchase a mat that has good air flow characteristics. This good info and it's appreciated. PS...so where is a good source for these bed mats?

i've always used a couple of 2foot wide pieces of plywood easy to slide in and out and make great tables at swapmeets

I used a bed mat on a woodfloor and it rotted real quick after lasting over 20 years exposed.It makes a difference with how good the finish is to begin with.

If you'd rather buy one local instead of online w/ shipping charges, I would recommend going to a Tractor Supply store if you got one. They generally carry bed mats that are very high quality and are made of very heavy rubber. They have the little bumps on the bottom to keep it raised off of your bed floor to allow moisture to dry underneath. I would also recommend getting the heaviest grade you can as the lighter mats will lift as you're going down the road.

For your application the rubber mat is clearly the way to go. I considered a spray in liner on my 77 Cheyenne. The more I looked at them on classic trucks the more I didn't like the look.

Since you plan to keep it warm and dry you will do just fine with a rubber mat.
