Original Tires Help

Does anyone know what company made the tires for Chevrolet 1/2 tons in 1967? I just got my original 15"x5.5" wheels back from the powder coaters and want to put the correct tires onto them. If I had to guess I would think Firestone made them. Thanks for all the help, and Merry Christmas to everyone.

Firestone, General, Goodyear.....

Check with Coker tires for what's available. They will have them, I'm sure.

there was never one specific tire used back then a practice contuinued to the present day just go look thru a new car dealership and you'll see a variety of tire makers are used// the only exception to the rule then or now are the higher performance models of some cars// personally i wouldnt waste the money on bias ply tires

I to heard all the horror storie's about the bias ply tire's , but when it came to look's for my 67 camaro the original firestone redline's look better than anything ever made !! I wanted them because of the way they look , so I bit the bullit and bought 5 of them , the camaro drive's and ride's GREAT with them , the only problem I found is if you drive on an old road where the pavement has lot's of stress crack's it feel's a little funny but other than that I love E'M and you just can't beat the look ,,,,

Coker has them. According to the pcture in the 71 sales brochure, the tires pictured have 2 thin white stripes about 1" apart maybe less. They run 116-140 for the BFG Silvertowns from Coker. If I could sell my 5 - 8" rallies and the 275/60 Firestone Firehawks I would bite the bullet and buy new 5 lug stockers and the BFGS.

Thanks for the infomation. I am putting my 67 back to as close to original as I can. This may sound bad but I do not drive it much. Sense I have owned it, it has brought me more joy just working on it and seeing the truck come back together. I just purchased 5 original wheels for it and had them powder coated. I told my girl we would take the truck out this Sunday because I am planning to rebuild the carburator and do not know if it will run again when I am finished. If I could ever figure out how to post a picture I would. The guys on this site have really been a big help to me. I think I have learned more from you guys then I ever could on my own. Thanks again, and Merry Christmas to everyone.

I'd like to see pics of your powder coated rims. I have the original 6 bolt rims for my 68 gmc and have been thinking of having the sand blasted and repainted.

Here's a tip on how to do the pics.

Print and follow these steps:

1. After you click on "reply" or create a new topic, click on the small "paper clip" above the post or go to manage attachements on the bottom of your thread box.

2. A "Manage Attachments" pop up box will appear. Click on the "browse" box.

3. On the next "Choose file" popup you can look for your picture folder by clicking on the down arrow in the "Look in" box. (I keep my truck pics separately in a Truck Folder)

4. I right mouse click in an open spot on the folder and click on "view thumbnails" so I can see the actual pictures.

5. Click on the picture you want. The name will appear in the "File name" box.

6. Click on "Open" to the right of the file name box.

7. The "Manage attachements" box will appear again with the name of the picture on the first box.

8. Click the "Upload" box. (picture has to be within the kb limits allowed or it won't upload)

9. After it finishes uploading, close the "Manage attachments" box.

10. Click on "Preview Post" box and your picture will appear in your post.

I wouldn't hesitate to put a good set of bias-ply tires on my truck. For the ultimate bone stock-look it's the way to go.

My in-bed spare tire is an old bias- ply tire. It MIGHT be an original. I'd never use it on my truck now but I like to keep in there for show. If you want I can try to get some info off it or take a picture.

I drove many miles on bias ply tires without any problems back before everyone switched over to radials. Sure, radials are better, but If you're going for the completely original look, why not.

Thanks for all the information guys. Here are a few before and after pictures of the wheels I restored. I got these from South Dakota and had them sandblasted and powder coated.

Thanks truckdude239. I will look into some tires that size (235/75r/15s) when I get ready to get the new set. Just finished restoring my Rochester 1 barrel carburetor with a rebuild kit I got from American Classic Truck Parts. It was my first carburetor rebuild so I really did not know if I could pull it off. I cannot tell you how I felt when she started right up!
