"Wear" Pads Between Leaf Springs

It is my understanding that our trucks did not come with the non-metallic "wear" pads between the leafs (rear suspension). Would there be any benefit to adding them (better ride if the leafs could move easier)?

Re: "Wear" Pads Between Leaf Springs

I thought about doing that some years back but haven't done it.

The leaf springs of a regular driver are probably the most reliable part of the chassis unless you're into offroading. I've seen trucks falling apart from rust, etc. and the springs still intact.

However, it may help in reducing squeeking and maybe help the ride a little.

I put a 4 inch lift from Skyjacker on my K20. Both the front and rear springs had plastic wear pads, but they didn't last very long. Not sure if they fell out or wore out.

Aren't they teflon, not metal? Check with someone in your area who does spring service, but teflon is the stuff to have...won't rust or squeak like metal would be apt to do in that environment.

Re: "Wear" Pads Between Leaf Springs

my brother and I disassembled his leafs from his 70 K-5 not too long ago. what we removed reminded me of white milk jug plastic, but was more than likely teflon.

probably could get replacements from suspension shops??

Re: "Wear" Pads Between Leaf Springs

i didnt see any real noticeable difference when i went from springs without to ones with as far as squeaking its probally alot more due to mounts and bushings and things that havnt been tightened or installed with attention to detail over the past 35or so years than your spring leaves
