Best Way To Lay Frame On A 69 C10

Im gonna be baggin a 69 C10, i need to know what all it involves for the front of the truck, and ideas for the rear, i plan on 4 linkin it or using the stock arms, how big of a notch is needed to lay it on 18's ( i think thats what hes gonna use), i have bagged my 53 chevy sedan to the ground so im not worried about makin my own notch and bracket, but do they sell notches for this truck or what? is the front stock drums or disk, if there drums who sells drop spindles that will convert to disks? any help/ PICS would be awesome!
thanks
Aaron

Re: Best Way To Lay Frame On A 69 C10

go with a dropmember, use a KP weld in notch, go with a four link if you want to lay frame, the trailing arms won't do it for you. If you go with a dropmember you can use stock spindles. Search my id and you can find some pics of the dropmember installed.

Re: Best Way To Lay Frame On A 69 C10

classic performance products sells a c notch
http://www.classicperform.com/

early classic sells disc brake conversion kits and drop sprindles.
http://earlyclassic.com/

you wont lay frame because the front crossmember hangs too low. you can z the front frame rails, channel the front crossmember, or get the porterbuilt dropmember.
www.porterbuiltstreetrods.com

the rear can get close to the ground but no frame dragging with the bolt in notch.

see the suspension section of this messageboard here

Re: Best Way To Lay Frame On A 69 C10

The Kp notch will allow you to lay frame if you go with a 4 link. The CPP is not enough notch to get you down that far. I have 2.5 drop spindles on mine now with a dropmember, but I am having to go back to a stock height spindle or my frame will sink into the mud about 2 inches. If you want to lay frame you can not use the trailing arms they will hit the frame before you get there. If your budget will allow I suggest the dropmember just for the benefits, and ease of installation. It takes all of the hard fab work out of the picture, solves alot of issues with dropping the front end down on these trucks. It would be the best choice you could make.

The drum's would be a good question for Nathan, I am not sure on that one. As far as the arms go the member is built so you can use either stock arms or ART arms. The lower Arm will require a little clearancing, but nothing to bad to make it work.

Re: Best Way To Lay Frame On A 69 C10

Go get a copy of the Jan 08 Street Trucks mag, they have a detailed write up on the DropMember install. It is on a 78 or 6, but will show you what needs to be done for the install.

Re: Best Way To Lay Frame On A 69 C10

you can use 72-87 spindles, discs, control arms and such. the only difference is the taper on the lower ball joint and on the 73+ the u-bolts that hold on the lower control arm cross shafts are upgraded to 9/16th"

Z'ing in the age of the dropmember is the poor man's way to save a nickel up front by spending a dollar in labor.
DM is worth every penny and then some in simplicity of install. I will admit I seem biased to the DM but I come by it honestly from proffesional experience with z'ing and air ride related chassis fab for over ten years. You can see my install on my '72 burb linked in my profile.
