Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
I bought these plugs at Napa a month ago when I bought a bunch of other stuff I needed. I didn't look at the plugs until tonight. I have Champion RV19YC's. What are they? All I have ever used as far as I can remember are R44TS's. Anyone know the difference? I probably will just take these back tomorrow and get the R44TS plugs. These are going on a 350 with HEI.

I have heard the same thing about Champion... NGK's are usually pretty good.

Definately avoid the Champions. I've heard horror stories.

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
Well that was easy. When I pulled them out of the bag tonight I did a double take. I guess I wasn't paying attention when I walked out of the store that day.

I find it ridiculous you blame a spark plug brand like champion for all these problems. I run the 4025 truck plugs in my engine.

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
I share my opinion after 20+ years of mechanical experience. They are OE in Jeep. We replaced the Champions in them at 15,000 miles. We went to Autolite in the 4.0 Cherokees and get 30,000+ miles out of them. We put them in a 2002 Chevy pickup with the 6.0 and immediately got a check engine light with p0300 misfire code. Took them out and inspected them, they looked fine. Replaced them with AC/Delco, and everything was fine. I know that some people swear by them, and that is fine. We have had no luck with them here. Just saying that I base my opinion on fact...

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
If it does not have a mower deck under it, dont use champions. Even if it does have a mower deck, only use them as a last resort. You will get double the mileage and performance from a Delco plug.

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
Actually, there is a mower deck under it. I have a pretty small garage, no where else to store it when the snowblower is on the lawn tractor.

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
champions or chumpions are the only plug i ever had to not fire right out of the box.the two dirt car engines always ran great but twice after tune ups with champions, usually run ngk,but parts store only had champions for my heads at the time, the plugs exploded and pieces went into the pistons and valves, maybe it wasnt the plugs, but thats the only change.plus like i said i never had a ngk not fire out of the box worked as a mechanic from 87 till around 97 and always done my own work ......once bitten twice shy,....jmo...everyone has one..

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
we run NGK's in the Mazdas at the dealership(plus they make the factory plugs for the rotary RX-8) i use AC DELCO in everything else from my 81 GP to my 69, my bikes take NGK, but i haven't had very good luck with autolite in anything(even at the dealership) or champions
how much different do the plugs look? maybe updated number but prolly just a mix up

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
I've been running Bosch, no issues, excellent mileage & reliability in the Blazer. I ran Accell forever in it until the price doubled.
Sadly Champions have never given me good reliable service, we pulled them out of everything, bob cats, tractors, dozers, pony engines & even in lawnmowers! Once that was complete, our issues pratically vanished. Frank

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
I work for Napa Auto Parts for ten years and this is really gonna blow you away. Guess who makes AC DELCO its not GM or DELPHI. Champion makes AC Delco for GM they and Champion is made by Federal Mogul. Here is a web site that used by most shops that buy from Napa. It dont give you store prices but it has alot of good stuff. From torque spec to fireing order check it out http://www.napaprolink.com. Log in as NAPAPROLINK password PROLINK. Sorry to break some of your hearts.

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
Didja know that the letters AC stand for Albert Champion? When General Motors corporate bought the AC name, Mr. Champion set out to make a plug with his own name on it.
There have been many, many brands of spark plugs over the years. I remember when the Fred's stores (a discount chain) sold reconditioned spark plugs. I bought a set of 8 to put in a '65 Tempest 326 that had a dead miss, and it fixed it. I had only paid $75 for the car (in '75) and had little to lose. It ran very well and did so for at least two years afterwards. The plugs were mixed brands, but all correct for the application...Motorcraft and Autolite were most common in the set.

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
Uhhh, guys I work at a NAPA and I hate to burst the AC DELCO lovers bubble but Champion actually makes the AC DELCO plugs, just like Standard Motor Products makes the Dist caps and rotors. Delco makes absoultely SQUAT anymore, it is just a marketing name anymore.

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
they may all come from the same factory, same machines, but bet the quality components used are different by plug brands,........some one makes all the walmart ,kroger, and such brands as this ,and there is a difference ,all be it a small difference most of the time.

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
I have used split fire plugs in my Hawg...never had an issue and the bike did have noticable improvement in performance & starting. Never used them in anything else.

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
Ain't it great to have so many choices of spark plugs? Platinum, gold, irridium, split-fire, 4-ways....there's a whole lot to choose from. I use the iridium in my Tundra, but plain ole' AC's in my '69. Don't know what the '96 has in it, because my son did them in CA. The Lexus has irridium plugs in it.

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
something i never quite under stood was split fires i mean yeah you will have more surface area for the spark to jump from but the spark is still going to jump its shortest distance, right? never paid much attention to them i just stick to what i have, as long as it sparks when it needs to i'm happy

Re: Sprak Plugs - Champion RV19YC???
For 45 years of wrenching, I have never had good luck with Champions. Don't care who makes what but ---that name on that plug has consistantly been a PITA so the last one I had, I broke out the center and use the casing with a hose attached to fill tires--you just pull a plug, screw in the champion plug with the hose attached, and fill you tires when low on the road. Best use for Champion plugs!!
