Windshield seal

I have already broken a windshield by trying to mount it using a new seal.
I did wonder if there is a quality difference between the aftermarket seals because i did find the windshield very hard to place in compere with mounting windshields on other cars.
Mine was from classicparts and had the mark counterparts on it.
Truckshop delivers the same.

I just installed a whole set of windows in my 71 without any major issue's. Mine had the S/S trim also. The front windsheild need's to go in at the top first, the two top corner's then work it down both sides. I had rope inside the gasket. It helps to have some one helping you also. We then pushed up on the whole window and worked the bottom in. It wasn't that bad.

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Just did mine last weekend. Tried the shop manual bottom first approach - no way.. Tried as above starting with the top and got it in. For sure it's easier to get the upper corners in first and then pull the cord starting at the top. A couple of helpers to keep some upward and inward pressure are needed as is lots of soapy water to help things along.

Not wanting to hi-jack the thread but yes I had 3 of us working on it, two pushing in on glass as one pulled the rope. This needs to be done carefully not to push so much you crack the glass but just to keep the rubber from coming back out. I used windex to spray everything down good. I to thought about doing the bottom first but after several minutes of fighting it we stoped and started on the top first. Once all the rope was pulled out I used a plastic peice to get the gasket right.

Their is a differance in the quality of window seals. We only sell ones from PRECISION. We do this after getting fustrated using inferior ones sold by some companies. Some of the other vendors here sell them also and IMO are the best ones to use. If Binswanger glass uses them thats what we will use. They cost more but not in the end. adding also that many of PRECISIONS mouldings are Gm approved restoration parts.

Thank you all for the good advice.
Most things i did the same way. But there are some points i can do better, i see.
And is it possible for your company to ship a seal to Holland Mike? If so i will order one.

I didn't use any sealer cuz mine won't see the rougher elements too often. Seems like it would be hard to put the sealer in without making a mess.

After a couple "so called" glass guys tried and failed, I broke one (window) and then finally cleaned up the original ss trim and got it in (2nd windshield) successfully.

The aftermarket trim was the problem for me.

First i did try it with windshield sealer and it did work. Only the rope was grubby after it.
But the windshield did not get in, and tryed it again with a new windshield seal and no sealer. Only lubricant and 3 helpers.
But it did not succeed again.

I think its no problem to put on sealer after mounting. The upside corners and some rough edges are the most important by my opinion.
