WOW...NOS gate sold for $658.50-Truck Tach Vac Speed Warning Cluster sold for $675

WOW...There is no doubt I do not know what some of our truck parts are worth. I went back to monitor the above items on ebay to see what they fetched and I was really surprised. The NOS gate sold for almost 1/2 of what I bought my complete LWB takeoff (71 bed taken off in 72 w/gate) and it's as close to NOS as you can get. And the Cluster Guage...again it blew my socks off. Four things are happenning IMHO: 1) someone is something, 2) our trucks are really taken off with new folks. 3) people with more $$$ than I are getting into our hobby, 4) fewer parts avaliable causing a higher demand which is forcing prices up. Although if someone is fixing up a "Show Stopper" type truck...I guess the tailgate would be worth it or someone really wanted a Truck Tach Vac Speed Warning Cluster really bad...then it is worth that to them. I guess I am a little out of touch what these parts are worth now a days. Thats why I will try and sell my parts that might come up down the road on this board.

Re: WOW...NOS gate sold for $658.50-Truck Tach Vac Speed Warning Cluster sold for $67

It's a combo of all of that. Another culprit is eBay. It has made finding parts a lot easier, but now everyone thinks they can get eBay prices for said parts...even on the board here. It almost makes me want to quit the hobby sometimes...sometimes. Don't get me wrong here, I have had a few members give me reasonable deals on stuff I needed and I really appreciate it. So it goes to show that there are still people around who won't charge you $600 dollars for a pair of shredded bucket seats (not aiming this at any specific person) that will cost you an additional $600 to rebuild. Sorry, I'll get off my soap box now.

The gates used to bring even more before the reproductions with the letters stamped in them came out.

The 'NOS' gate prices aren't out of the park.

Price what it would take to get your beat up original gate stripped, metal worked, body worked, primed, blocked, & painted & you ca have a similar amount of $$ in a 30yr old 'used' part vs. a 30+yr old 'NOS' part.

With 'classic' vehicles, it's easy enough to spend the money up front or in the end..... just depends which is easier for the situation.

As one member said it's all of the above that you pointed out plus 1 more point if I may bring it to light.

Money tends to circulate "WHY" because that is what it does, it's the very nature of the beast. Let me explain it this way. A buddy of mine 2 months ago sold a 34 Chev Coupe body 99% rust free no other parts, less fenders, running boards, frame etc. just a body shell for $11,000 bucks, sold the first day it was advertised. If it would have been a 32 Ford in like condition $15,000 to $20,000. This will be a $100,000 dollar hot rod once it is finished. Some guys get tired of this playing with the big boys sell their rod and start looking to build a truck. After what they are used to paying $2,500 to $5,000 is nothing and their getting a truck that they can more then likely drive home and in this new found sand box they are the big boys. They have the coin to finish the truck project in a year or less, have fun and in a couple years dump it and possibaly make a profit. SWEET for them! What does that leave us with? Truck parts we can't afford as vendors are not know'n for rolling back their prices. The older classic trucks out of reach price wise and we end up driving in a truck that would not be our first choice.

In the last 10 years I've seen more trucks on the pages of magazines, more parts available including a complete tin body for my 50' for $10,000 bucks. You cannot do anything about it as we have been discovered boy's.

I've seen the same thing happen with old Harley parts about 10 years ago. One minute you couldn't give the stuff away and then Bam! I couldn't afford it

Look at prices on crate motors, trannys, paint work, air ride and other stuff. Its about $$$ and who can afford it and some that think they can. My build has been always last and thats why its not done. Jealous no, envious no, apperciate yes if some puts time and money in a ride thats great. But not to sacrifice the home and family. I see the high dollar rides and wonder how they afford em'. My $150 repop gate and 20 yr old Sun tach will do me just fine and save a grand for gas to drive it!!!! LOL!!!

Now Weasel has put the "Hot Rod" back into Hot Rodding! Guy's with the big $$$ can not appreciate the 20 yr. old Sun tach that Weasel has. There is just a feeling that is so great when you get into a ride truck/car and look around and see stuff you have never saw before or for at least 30 yrs. Back in the day $15,000 to $35,000 could not have been spent if you tried and now it's an average ride .... something wrong here.

Way to go Weasel for bring it all back to where it should be.

There is a brite side...most and I said most high $$$ guys don't hang around with us low $$$ people. With that said we can still sell to each other and hopefully keeps the prices on parts affordable. Although I like the looks of all our trucks regardless of the look...I still favor the trucks that are stock appearing for the most part. Just my taste. Highly modded, rat trucks are good looking...it's just in my old age I like the close to stock look appearing truck. Long live us poor guys! May we stick together (even though we may have differrences-thats why we need the "MODS".), sell together, fix our trucks together, and enjoy our trucks together.:ennyd:

Re: WOW...NOS gate sold for $658.50-Truck Tach Vac Speed Warning Cluster sold for $67

Theres nothin' wrong with money but my idea on some this stuff does the ''cost justify the means''. Take 2 identical trucks one with a high buck motor, tach dash etc. The other garage built both run and drive slick, look great and turn heads. One wants $20k the other $10k. Is the extra money worth it to enjoy?. I'm not tryin' to slam just makin' a point. Heres one thing I did was gonna budget $200-300 for a late model seat. Got a bench for $50 that is as good as most. So I took the extra and bought a new Mooneyes wheel and kit for $100.

from what i have seen i thought they were good prices though way out of my budget i got into these trucks because they are cheap and easy builders, fun to drive, and very functional. it's easy to go to far and when you do it takes away everything that brought me to them to begin with

All good points for sure, but then lets not forget the ego factor. Some people just have to one better everyone else. This is one reason that I personally do not do car/truck show's anymore. I've seen allot of hurt feelings over the years when things get toooo competative. All it takes is pouring into a truck another ($$,$$$) bigger wad then the other guy can afford and he's out of the game. I think the spirit of the hobby is fast leaving us and becoming all about the money. Things have changed.
