A/C Heater Control Assembly
Ok fellas, I've needed one for quite a while now. The fan switch is broken and one of the other levers is also broke. It's starting to get cold here, and basically just getting to be a real pain. Who has the best price on one ? I do not think I can afford a new one b/c I thought I heard they are really pricy. Does anyone have a great deal for a college kid on a used one in descent shape ? Thanks for any information. I'd atleast like it to look presentable. The truck is not a show truck, but a clean daily driver/work in progress. Thanks a lot in advance. Cliff

Cheapest way is to buy the parts to fix yours. The levers are available. It is normally that top one that breaks, and you can buy the original die cast type, or a steel replacement. That and a new fan switch, and you are back in business.

I rebuilt my assy last week. Changed out the fan switch for the hell of it and replaced the normally broken top lever. My old top lever is no good but you can have my fan switch if you want to pay the $4 shipping.

Is it hard to get the whole assembly out ? it looks kinda confusing with all the cables and such. Can I buy a re-build kit with the levers and switch ? or is everything seperate ? thanks for the responses guys. Cliff

You can buy a complete rebuild kit but since you only need one lever it would be kind of a rip off for the whole kit. I bought the whole kit and wish I hadnt. Check the LMC catalog. Theres a good blow up of the control unit and I believe they sell the levers individually. The switch is not part of the kit and in either case it is not necessary to remove the control unit to replace just the switch. The control unit is not that dificult to remove. Mark which cable goes where before you remove it and pop the retainers off for the cables and pull it out after you remove the two screws holding it in. push it straight back and then face down and out. The retainer for the lever pivot is kind of a ***** to remove. Best to just file the peened section off then restake when you put it back together. You'll see what I am talking about when you take the control unit out.

First thing I did when I bought the truck, bought the kit from Chevy Duty and replaced all the levers and cables (virtually all of mine were busted) took about an hour. Mine was non-AC though, but the principle will be the same.

New parts aren't too much of a problem, there are some good specialists here in the UK for service parts and for the more unusual stuff I can and do buy from the same people as you, I have bought from GMCPaul, Classic Heartbeat and ChevyDuty. It takes a bit longer and the shipping costs can be a b**ch. It also hurts if you get caught by Customs and Excise and made to pay tax on the way into the country, can add a significant amount.
Secondhand parts are more of a problem, very few 67-72 trucks getting parted out here a few newer trucks though. I am gradually getting to know other owners around the UK though and most of the parts seem to change hands directly. I am currently looking for a front sway bar setup in the UK as the shipping from over there would be enormous because of the weight. It's a bit more challenging than owning a British or European classic like I have in the past but fun none the less.

Hey there, that dosen't sound like too bad of a idea. I would gladly pay ya 15 and shipping. It couldn't be that much could it ? It should fit a 72 without any problem I believe. How would you get it here if I met you at the show ? E-mail me at CHEVHUGHES@Hotmail.com THanks a lot ... Cliff
