New Guy from FtSmith Ark.
I am a newbie checking in from FtSmith Ark,and own a 72 swb fleetside. I have owned a 69 swb fleetside and a 69 lwb fleetside but only have the 72 for now as the others were sold off after parts were accumulated.
My 72 currently has a 68 frt clip, originally had a wooden bed,and now have a sheet metal bed placed in there that can be easly removed for wood if ever needed, also has a custom 5-8 slam job, custom flush fit door handles, and a smoothed firewall w/o ac heater box. The truck is an original power steering/power brake truck w/ac and now only the frame and bed ar original as I have had 3 cabs and will use this one currently on the truck. I have a 4" cowl hod scoop I am grafting onto the 68 hood and have many more custom touches I hope to add soon. The truck at on time I was racing in Tulsa at the drag strip with a 454 in it and after moving back to FtSmith placed a 408 small block in it from one of my street cars and had alot of fun with it. It is now sitting idle outside waiting its turn back into the garage and to run down the street once again. I plan on staying around for a while and hope to soon have a stock pile of parts to go back on my 72. Brian McClure first pic was with super slam job and 408 small block next two pics with body work being done,NOW truck has fenders, doors, cab, bedsides in primer waiting on hood and other part. |

Sweet project! Welcome from Missouri. This is a great place to hang out. Glad you decided to join. You have to be a "subscribing" member if you ever decide to sell any parts. It's only $25 bucks a year,... but its the best $25 you will ever spend. I've found so many parts on here,... that I have recouped my $25 many times over. Now,... we need more PICS!

Re: New Guy from FtSmith Ark.
Thanks again for the welcome.
The door handles are from ahem.........a Dodge actually, and the shape is Intrepid,Prowler,Neon,etc.......The handles on it are 4 door rear Neons for test fit purposes and the actual handles will be the Intrepid style which are smooth paintable where as the Neons are black textured plastic. I took a cardboard template I made of the contour of the Chevy door where I wanted my handle, and went salvage yard hunting......I almost had a Malibu/Impala set but ended up with a perfect match to my template on the rear doors of a neon,so I had the yard cut them out in about a 12" x12" piece of the door so I had plenty to graft into the Chevy door. I had seen 88-98 handles placed on these trucks but they looked too low for me,so I made sure I placed mine in a good location. I also added a different striker inside the door and also on the door jam from a Dodge Ram. The bulky striker in the jam was removed and the recessed portion filled in and a Dodge Ram striker added, while a inner door catch was added in the door. It took a while to get the outer door handle to mate with the latch assembly with the rod and when I finally got that right I was shocked that the inner door handle rod fit right in with no mods. The inner latch assembly has power door lock option so I can wire it up if needed. I really like the handles and the way they blend as you look down the side of the truck and cant see them stick out like the bulky originals. I do wish I could have done the Impala/Vette handles but I will make these work. I did see a black truck in a TRUCKIN issue once after mine was done that had the exact handles and was impressed how they looked on his also. I am stoked to finally get to where I may be able to get the truck back in the garage so I can get it back on the road. I have a fresh machined 350 that I can place in it or a buildable 400 small block too. I do Suspension work mainly on Dodge Rams right now and it keeps me very busy doing this out of my garage and I have many many many guys come here from 5-12 hours away and more for work to be done and have been doing so the last 5 years. I am a dealer for many suppliers like Mcgaughys and others. My truck was done with a custom blend of ECE parts and some of mine for a 5-8 slam job,and need to finish it out when the cab and bed come back off. My old ride My New ride temporarily lifted for Winter The same truck before my new 6-10 custom drop goes on (in the pic 5-7 dropped) I hope to update progress pics in the next few months if possible. Brian
