best news of the year!(no pun intended)

I just found out today that they drunk guy that hit me actually had insurance! its now not a question of if im getting any money back, to, now how much.with any luck i can get all my bills payed and get another truck. I already bought a 70 c10 so when i get a settlement with the insurance company i will be looking for a second c10.

My question is how much should i expect to get for my old truck, how much should i settle for. heres a couple pics of before, keep in mind the engine, trans front linkage, entire brake system are all brand new(not refurbished or rebuilt) just about every mechanical part was replaced.

Well you'll have to figure out how much you had in the truck and how much your medical bills were(hopefully you didn't sign in the section that makes you responsable) and think of an amount. Becareful because the adjuster will severly lowball the figure, most insurance companies policys have around $20,000 for accidents like this one involving personal injury. In your case I definitely would not settle for any less than $10,000 your part.

keep in mind that most insurance companies consider money and work to the mechanical ( engine , trans and such) to be required maintainance and dont value it more .

Re: best news of the year!(no pun intended)

reciepts, reciepts, reciepts!!
I was in a hit and run in a 68 that was a basic as posiable.

I felt i was low balled and asked for the adjuster's report.
Sure enough they said it was a C20. Some of their comments went my way and others theirs. I settled for $2800 and it was as rusty as possiable. Matter of fact the wood in the bed was not there and I had a plastic bed liner.

Do not settle until you fell right about it. But try to get the truck back for whatever you can. Remember you own that thing and they aren't buying it from you - they're paying you for damages. (different polocies for different companies.)

I agree...if you have reciepts, get them together. Also pictures. Another area would be get ads that show what simalar trucks are selling for. As said...the insurance companies will low ball you and work you so you will accept less money. Also remember the guy that hit you was DUI. Good Luck.

Re: best news of the year!(no pun intended)

like the others said find your recipts. When I got hit and my 93 got totaled they added up all my recipts for new engine trans rebuilt rearend ets... and added half of it to the settlement. which is way more than I expected them to do for me. You can also find out how much it would be to buy it back, i could have got mine back for 1,600.

This is a great story all around. Once dead...now alive and with insurance. I know you were being taken care of by the man upstairs! It will all work out for you! If you have receipts, photos, and documents..it will all help. Bottom line though, you and the guy will live to tell the story!

Re: best news of the year!(no pun intended)

Don't trust the insurance company of the other person. When I was rear ended by another dude with my two senior parents and my 5 year old girl in the car the insurance company offered a $250.00 settlement for all of us. I bought a book (can't remember the title) that helped me calculate a fair settlement. Once I had an amount I stuck to it, and they settled the day before small claims court. My advice is don't even bother talking to them too much, stick to what is fair and just file court papers as soon as you get offended by their low ball settlement offers. Documentation is very important too like everyone has already said.

i think you should get A Good lawer espicially since you were injured. My brother-in-law is getting about a quarter of a million out of his accident. The other guy's insurance company will try to settle out for much less than you have coming. Of course your lawyer will get a good chunk of any settlement too.
