how do you replace the input shaft seal? Is it a easy thing to do? Its a Saginaw manual box from a 68.

Ive got the kit to replace the input shaft seal on my power steering box on my 71. if itll help to eliminate at least SOME of the slop in the steering Ill be happy. From the looks of it it shouldnt be to hard to do, seal puller, snap ring pliers and some patience should be about all ya need. may save you the cost of either a new steering box (Id suggest a junkyard box but at least a new one would eliminate any worry that it will happen again). Just my 2 cents.

They are simple to replace. Remove the snap ring and then "pick" the seal out, but a new seal won't eliminate any slop in the steering.

I don't have any slop, just a little leak. I don't see any snap ring, just a rubber seal around the shaft. This is a manual box.

Here are pics of the seal i want to replace. How does this come out?

You should be able to drive an awl in it & dig it out. Clean the shaft good before sliding the new seal over it.

I was thinking yours was power!!!

Do just like Wrenchbender said, use an awl to punch through the seal and pick it out.

anybody know where I can find this seal? I've had two strikes so far: ordered one from local parts store...came in wrong and they can't find the right part.

Called LMC and they JUST stopped carrying them. Any thoughts?

Some of those seals are easier to pull if you drill a couple of small holes in them and then put a screw or two in the holes, then grab the screws and pull the seal out.

As far as parts try my friends at Standard gear and transmission.

NAPA has seal kits for P.S. boxes, they might have a seal kit for yours. Or even a seal.
