Check ground wires first make sure they're tight and bare metal connections. Maybe need new flasher? Cheap might as well get a new one.

He means the hazard lights switch that plugs into your fuse panel.

wiring
I encountered something in the old wiring category last weekend.
Neither my cargo lite or dome lite were working. I found the following. - fuse ok -12v at connector at fuse block - continuity ok on white (grd) wire on both circuits - no continuity on either hot So I stripped the loom off the full length of wire to look for obvious breaks, etc. On the dome, I found a mickey mouse repair and thought that must be it. Checked cont form fuse block to repair and had cont. from the other side of repair (after separating the wire at the repair) no cont. No visible problems in wire, but no continuity! I went about half the length between the repair and the terminal end and shaved a little insulation off. Checed continuity both ways, good one way, not the other. I then noticed a little irregular bump in the wire in the no cont section. Stripped the insulation and found a white oxidized powdery mess about 1/2" long where wire once was. I cut out the bad and spliced in some good and got 12v from the fuse block to the end! Found the same thing in the cargo lite circuit. All I can figure is that along the way a pinhole got in the insulation somehow and let moisture in allowing the corrosion. It was weird, though, because there was no visible sign of any hole/breakage in insulation.

Since it all went out slowly, and not at once, I am gonna make a guess on it.
pull the bulb, and (with the lights off) spray some electrical motor cleaner in it, and clean out any grease/gunk/crap that is in there. Seen it many times. |
