Silver Lake Sand Dunes, MI (PICS)
Here are some pics I found of our trip to the dunes Labor Day 2007
1. This is Test Hill.. Longest but not the steepest This is the top of Test Hill-- good place to watch the idiots!! This is Lake Michigan at sunset This is a buddy of mine out back somewhere. The dunes are about 2,000 acres we're allowed to ride on. This is our crew, I'm the fat guy in the middle!!! |

More pics...
This is our rig in a little town called Hart, MI Front view of trailer This is my Raptor 700 This is another buddy of mine that crashed off the top of Test Hill. You can see the wet sand behind him about 20 feet. That's where he landed and proceeded to flip end over end twice. |

Re: Silver Lake Sand Dunes, MI (PICS)
It does great!!!! The new 468 BBC has a ton of torque. I run the tires about 10 psi. It gets a little rough sometimes, but that's the fun part. I broke the front driveshaft that Sat. morning. At the bottom of Test Hill there was some whoops, I got the front end bouncing too much. I guess that was the weakest link.

Re: Silver Lake Sand Dunes, MI (PICS)
Man, that looks like a lot of fun. I spent a lot of time on the Oregon Sand dunes back in the 80's when I was in high school (I'm from Coos Bay). Those pics look a lot like the Oregon dunes. I've always wanted to take a Blazer down there on one of the big weekends and take my family out to see the dunes. I don't think my current Blazer would be up for much more than simple sight seeing though.
Have you ever run paddles on your Blazer?

Sat. morning was my day to play and I broke the driveshaft the 1st attempt up Test Hill. I still think my wife must of been raggin' the ol' girl. So, we drove out to the beach in 2wd and just hung out there. That is also a cool place to hang out, because everyone cruises up and down the shore line (probably about a mile long). If anyone has NEVER been to the dunes, it's awesome place to be, especially on holiday weekends. There are literally thousands of trucks, sand rails, quads, dirt bikes, homemade creations, anything and everything. Gets me excited just talking about it. Chevyman63 is trying to organize at trip this summer for anyone willing to make the adventure. I STRONGLY recommend trying it. You don't have to rag on your ride, it's cool just watching. IT'S A BLAST!!!!!!! |

I would be glad to help organize the meet. I don't know who's in charge of such a matter, but I would be glad to help. I have all the numbers for the campgrounds and motels in the surrounding areas. I have been going for about 12 years consistently, each year the DNR makes more stupid rules, but it's always a good time. Silver Lake is quite a small town, not alot to do there besides the dunes. If you keep going north along the shoreline there is some beautiful scenery, especially if you have never been to MI before. A holiday weekend is alot of fun because of all the traffic, however, if the Board meeting was being held, you might not want all the chaos. It's nice to be on the dunes without having the worry of getting ran over. Someone should post a voting pole to see if others would be interested in having it up here... |

Re: Silver Lake Sand Dunes, MI (PICS)
that sounds like a good idea, planing on taking the blazer back up this year. have all the other toys. my last 71 blazer i had up there was still in school about 23 years ago. but at least the kids and wife still want to go. it was killing me last year not having mine done yet, but this year will be different hopefully. and if it goes throught on the meeting count me in. see you there this summer.
