Starter Engages Roughly
My starter engages roughly but will go ahead and start it. I think it is just loose so I will tighten up bolts and possibly add some washers. Any other advice?

KEEP THE WASHERS
Don't use washers u either have a bad starter drive gear or the starter is loose or u need to put shims in it.Sounds like a drive gear to me

I had a similiar problem with my truck and it turn out to be that the flywheel had some missing teeth. Replaced both the flywheel and the starter. Now it starts up smooth. Good luck.

FIXED
Well it completely quit yesterday. Starter just ran but didn't even attempt to turn over engine. Just sounded like little motor running. Took it to NAPA and they hooked it up to the machine and it made the same racket it had been then blew their circuit.
So I got a new one for $57.41 and when I take the old one back I get $15.50 back. I looked it up and I got the old starter from Advance Auto for $29.99 after getting $12 back for the old one on July 9 2001 and it says LTD Lifetime Repl on the receipt.... but I will try to get my $29.99 back from them and if not take it to NAPA to trade in for $15.50 Looking back it never has worked like a new one should, even though better than the original one that hardly turned it. The new one you turn it and it starts right up with the keys turn. and it sounds like it really turns it. I am sure it'll take a little gas in the cold though. Drove it about 20 miles and started it 4 or 5 times at different stops I had to make. Gonna check it in the morning and see if its all still tight.
