flowmaster mufflers
To me it seems that flowmasters have a deep rumble to them and glass packs have more of a crackle. Flowmaster to me sounds more like a performance muffler. More bass than just all out loud... I'm I hearing this right?
What mufflers are you running? What mufflers also have that "unique deep" sound like the flowmaster? |

Re: flowmaster mufflers
I had a set of Flows on my old truck, 97 2500HD w/454. Had true duals, 2 1/2" from the Flows back. I had 4" stainless steel tips, 24" long coming out either side of the hitch. At certain RPMs, it would rattle the windows, easily setting off car alarms. But at idle it wasn't bad, nor at highway speeds......Dynomax is supposed to be similiar......

Re: flowmaster mufflers
I run two Flowmaster 50 series Delta Flows. With long tube headers and no cats they are pretty wicked sounding, nothing like the new trucks you hear driving around that have cats. I get a very crisp full range sound with that sweet rumble as well. Since these are the quieter 50 series, they are pretty tame on the highway.

Re: flowmaster mufflers
3" Flowmaster 40 series on my Charger. Built 440.
2 1/2" Terminators on my '78 SWB. Mild 454. 2 1/2" Summit welded mufflers on '69 "Burban. Mild 350. All mufflers are the chambered type and sound similar (and good), but the Charger definitely sounds BETTER, mostly due to the 3" size and more radical engine. Even cheap mufflers will sound good if you have a HONKIN' engine. And Flowmasters (along with other chambered muffs) usually don't sound good on "stock" engines. The main difference between the various mufflers is price. Flowmasters used to be fairly inexpensive, now the price is twice what I've bought 'em for. Pretty popular subject.......... http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/in...c,38996.0.html http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/in...c,37810.0.html http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=237276

Re: flowmaster mufflers
I have 40 Series Flowmasters on my truck. It does set off car alarms when I drive by them at 25 miles an hour. Watch the video in my signiture and listen to the sound.

Thanks. I am from Virginia, my wife and I are 1/2 way through a 3 year tour in Austria. What do you mean "Whats the duration on your bump stick"?

Re: flowmaster mufflers
I have heard that those SUper 44s sound WICKED. Alll the youtube stuff i have watched make it seem a little deeper tone than the others. There's just nothing like a GM engine backed by Flowmasters - you can hear one drive by and just know it

Re: flowmaster mufflers
Count me as a Flowmaster fan. My '75 has dual 40's with 2.5" tubes, '88 Blazer has a single 50 series with 3" tubes (its just as loud as the dual 40's i think)
And my '06 F150 has a dual outlet Super 40 run out the side , Lightning style They all sound good in their own way, but i'm old enough to prefer the quieter tone of the late model with the cat in front of it Borlas and Magnaflows are great too, but they're much more expensive

Re: flowmaster mufflers
Both my trucks have flowmasters on them, super 44's on the burb and the old school two chambers on the 78. The 78 is VERY loud.

Re: flowmaster mufflers
I had a guy put a new system from the manifolds back with FlowMasters. They are RAW sounding! Pretty quiet at idle, but fairly loud at driving speed. I don't know the specific model as there seem to be several.

Re: flowmaster mufflers
I am also a Flowmaster fan, but due to price, I chose a set of Force mufflers from summit. Basically Flowmaster knock-offs with a similar sound, just not as much drone to them. Can't beat the price at $35 each.

Re: flowmaster mufflers
I just added Magna flows on my truck. The dual exhaust is quiter than the single removed 40 Flowmaster. The sound is way better and not annoying. I need to get my camera back so I post some videos.

I had a couple magna flow muffs on my 91 DD. I say a couple, because i went through two of them at aa little over a year and ahalf each. They kept getting pinholes in them. The Flowmaster has lasted longer and sounds better. |

Re: flowmaster mufflers
I did have a catalytic converter with a single dual outlet magnaflow muffler.
Now I am running a small block 400(manifolds not headers) dual 40 series flowmaster mufflers dumped right out on the ground. I was $189.44 without the mufflers. He wanted $300 to run chrome rolled tips out in front of the back tires so I just went with the turndowns. I thought it was reasonable but I probably could have got it a little cheaper. Oh well sounds good. Set off my girlfriends car alarm right when I pulled up to her house in fact haha. Only thing is I have a "beer" window instead of a single back glass which rattles like crazy at some rpms with these mufflers. I dont mind it though. Suprised there were no replies on cherry bombs or other glass pack.... hmmm.... FLOWMASTER!!! |

Re: flowmaster mufflers
we got a single in dual out flowmaster 40 on our 84 it has a stock 305 and manifolds and no cat, it sounds great, depp and loud.
I got a mildy modded 350 in my monte carlo that did run glasspacks and they were crackly and I got tired of them. I got some cheap summit race(chambered mufflers) on it now and they are quieter then my glasspacks but have nice deep tone at idle, I've been told they need to break in though. They are only like a month old and only been started about 3 times with them on, and drove once. Now my old 76 had long tubes no cats and glasspacks dumped at the rear end and it had a sound of it's own, no crackle, just loud and deep, sounded great.
